Can anyone give me some advice on fighting Dreadmares? My group are all level 15 and I run into six of them while trying to get back into the mines.

The all cast eye-for-eye which take my magic casters out of the fight, then if I get close they "rear" which causes several of my party to "turncoat" and kill the others. I even tried some elementals but they "turncoat" and killed my group. In 7 or 8 battles I don't think I did a total of 100 damage and they are each worth 250 hp. I tried the eye-for-eye potion on all of my group but that takes a full round (during which I get clobbered) and doesn't stop the "turncoat."

I'm using magic shield but that doesn't seem to help either.

when you say magic shield, which spell are you talking about? Soul shield will help a great deal against those rears, and elemental shield will help against the ice balls. Also, the insanity/turncoat doesn't last long.. if you have to, chose walk and move around until your charmed fighter loses his turn.

Do you have the spells Soul Shield and or Element Shield?

Soul Shield is esp useful in helping prevent damage or effects from Mental and Divine spells (I am pretty sure) and Element Shield is obvoiusly for Elemental spells.

I still avoid these creatures if I can help it.

I have a slew of devices that increase my character's magic resistance, so by the time I met my first Dreadmares, none of their effects worked on me.

Don't overlook the power of equipment that increases your resistance to the various schools of magic.

silence.

that's the key to taking on dreadmares. if you're successful, they tend to run away. if there are any that aren't silenced, move in quickly to melee distance. its easier taking on one or two casters than all six at once. then cast silence again and again until successful while your fighters hack away.

the above mentioned strategies on magic screen, soul shield and element shield applies.

Hi!

Protect yourself with soul shield and magic screen, then cast web and freeze flesh/all on them.
After that you can simply walk near to them, and let your fighters do the dirty work.

Bye!

Thanks for the help! Soul Shield and Element Shield did the trick. It still wasn't easy by any means but I did get through.
