Hello folks!
I don't have this game yet, but i'm a lover of rpg games and would love to hear about this game from people who have played it and not from some baised review. from the screenshots that i've seen, i can tell that it's a first person view but how is the combat? how is character creation? as for the graphics, i'm not too interested in those. i would wager that most people that are into crpg's don't consider graphics as important as other people might. after all, who wants to drive a porsche 911 that breaks down every week?

Well, all I can say is, if you are into RPG's, go get it! Even if you haven't played the previous games, you can get into this one very easily, as it was designed with that fact in mind. You are right, it is indeed a first-person viewpoint. Movement and looking around are handled quite well, almost like a first-person shooter. This is a good thing, because it gives you a great sense of "space" and "depth" that 2-d RPG's just don't have. (Heh. I'm always afraid of falling off the trynton walkways!)
Combat is done very well. You can do either turn-based, or a "continuous" real-time mode. The AI is fairly good, and will attempt to surround you, and/or incapacitate your spellcasters if it can. You really *don't* want to get surrounded! Party formation is actually important here. Most of the weapon and spell effects are well done, too. (I just love the THWWWWT! of a longbow shooting an arrow.)
Character creation is enjoyable, but can be a tad lengthy. During creation, you can tweak each and every one of your character's stats (within limits). You can even decide what they speak like, and some of the voices are hillarious! Making a party that is effective depends mainly on how you play. Spells, swords, or in-between? Most everyone I've seen on this board has changed parties at least twice, after they discover what types/races best suit their play-style.
As for the graphics, well, even if you aren't concerned about them, you still want things to look pretty, right? Worry not. Wiz8 delivers in spades. Some of the spells and lighting effects are especially good. However, some of the monsters are kinda low-poly, and there *is* some pop-up in the outdoor graphics. Otherwise, looks are great! One other amazing thing...(espacially these days).. the game is rock-solid stable. I haven't had one crash or glitch since I installed it. Amazing.
Go get it.
Go.
Now.

well, not me. but i still love porsches! LOL!!

i think this game is the answer to a crpg lover's dreams. it has everything you ever want in one. good storyline, great characters, epic battles... and the design house is/was top-notch.

if you scan thru this board, you will see our love for it all over the place. our mods have a great newspaper "Dominus Digest" that gets put up regularly detailing events in our rpg world. we have posted screenies of our fave baddies and all talk about our crews alla time.

char creation: grade A+
you can choose premade chars or spend hours putting together your dream team. in fact, you should enjoy that part of team design, because there are so many factors that go into making good characters. i think a lot of us here have tried 2 or 3 different teams just to get one that works well for us.

combat: grade B+
varied, lots of different enemy types, and they are anything but easy. there are 3 settings for difficulty, not including Ironman, and *whew!* sometimes i haveta back outa Normal and play Novice for a bit. they spawn all over the place. could make for great moments of frustration if you find out your party blows chunks! LOL.

storyline: grade A
this is a personal thing. it's very apparently a mix of fantasy and scifi/tech. some people hate that, so they would say it flunks out on that score. unfortunately, some of our compadres have bowed out of playing it because of it. however, i'm not one of those and i am completely loving the story.

this is prolly the last game in a nice, long series. i only discovered it recently, and could kick myself for not finding out about it sooner.

i hope you decide to try it. it would be fun to have another player join our board to talk about their chars and what happens in their game!

Get the demo. If its your style of game you will find out soon enough. The learning curve is very short in the demo however you are restricted to a pre-determined group of characters and there is only one level to play. The demo has totally sucked me in and I have pre ordered mine (Aussies have to wait a couple of weeks yet for the release boo hoo)
The game style is a throw back to the good old days of CRPG with beefed up graphics. For the silent majority of us role playing gamers that like first person, turn based combat style of playing, Wizardy 8 looks like its better than sex....well almost.
