Firstly, Arnika is to the south, not the north. (I made the same mistake, LOL!) If you can reload to a position before you meet the Hogar (they're TOUGH!), head southward to Arnika from the T-intersection.
If you saved near the Hogar, start running! Cheers, -Sazerac |

Try a good, solid Paralyze spell and similar spells/powders to stop him in his tracks. Pump up your party with Bless and Enchanted Blade and then start wacking him. Prepare to paralyze again if he wakes up.

It's not hard to slip by the Hogar. He keeps to the center of the road, you can go by on the hills. I did this going to the cave and returning without any major trouble. Keep an eye on his dot on the radar, and run if he comes close.
He's not too hard to paralyze. Either level two or three will work on him. It won't last too long, so you need to beat him up quickly or recast it. |

Freeze flesh is a good companion to paralyze. If one doesn't get him, the other might.

He's easy to scare as well. Try casting a high-level "Terror" on him and he'll run like he**. Also, some of the bolts you pick up in the Monastery are Fear Bolts, which have 100% chance of casting Terror (no saving throw!

Man, what a bada** this Hogar guy is! I ran into him, literally and I figured if I could take on a bunch of enemies whose combined HP are more than he is, I'd be OK. Not true! I'd forgotten how much I relied on spells that attack all enemies at once.
I _did_ finish him off once at the cost of four people in my party! I didn't think that was worth it, so I reloaded. I managed to run past him the next time. Geez, what an addicting game this is, though! Dan |

Y'know, I never found him on mine! Maybe it was just a bug. I went all the way into the Northern Wilderness, and finally *did* find a cave with a "Hoagie" in it, finally offed him and found some super loot (including the hexing pipes which my bard can FINALLY use now). So I was reckoning that that was the Hogar that Xignal was referring to...then I went and looked back at his site and it was definitely in the Arnika Road area. Nothing in my game...not even a crimson poppy. (Lucky Lucky...I've had enough insane encounters in this game!)

I've encountered hogars in many zones in the game - they seem to like the forests and mountains the best. And every encounter has been a serious battle - except Rex, of course, in the Wilderness Clearing. What a nice, cuddly guy!
And I still panic (flashbacks to the Demo) whenever I see a swallower.
