Never played befor, need a little feedback

OKI, I got a link from Lady Nightshade (? grumbles and tries not to make a foolwolf yet) and it looked nice and so on. The game haven´t been released here in Sweden yet, and I got intrigued and wondered if some of you that has it could well, describe the gameplay, and some "feelings" about this game to me. It looks similiar to that comming one Morrowwind, but I see you get a bunch of characters here..
How does it work? Scripts, pausebuttons??

Any help and feedback would be highly appreciated.. The link to the demo was scjewy :S.. So I haven´t the demo yet...

it should take you directly to the download site. click on one of the 3 links along the left side of the page. be sure to click the name of the city! the top one (indiana) seems to be the fastest lately.

it is a huge download for everyone, but with a dialup connection it can be frustrating, so get something like getright download manager. this allows you to reconnect and pick up where you left off if your connection dies.

::smiles:: so now that's out of the way.... playing it is the only way to really do justice to this game.

i had never played any wiz games before, except wizards and warriors and really, totally, completely disliked that game. i thot it was so bad, that i paid no attention to anything about wiz 8 over the last year or so.

however, my bf talked of nothing else, saying that as a might & magic fan, i would love wizardry. so, eventually, i got the demo.
let me just say... he was right! i fell in love with it.

this game is completely engaging. it is fun from the start and has everything a crpg player loves. you can spend hours creating a party, choosing from many races and classes. or if you don't like doing that, then just jump in and choose the standard kind of teammates, giving them standard attributes... either way works!

the interface is huge, but not complicated. it's very intuitive, and you can customize nearly everything. your teammates have their own personality, talk among themselves, and talk & react during battle.

it is a full 3D world with an original style. the animations on your character's faces and the monsters are detailed and varied. there are hundreds of skeletal animations, so all the baddies look different. then they have hundreds of skins, too, so that within the same kind of baddie type, they still look different.

and the screen interface is thought out very well. you can set it up so that you see your party's faces, their conditions and the text windows all the time. or you can hide their faces. or hide their faces and the text box. or hide everything with just the barest of borders to show their conditions.

all your keyboard controls are customizable, so that you can use your fave configuration. that really wins me over. ::smiles:: 5 pages of keyboard configs. i'm in heaven!!

oh, and its from first person perspective. not topdown like BG series.

i know i am leaving tons of stuff out. but the most important thing is that they have done the storyline and gameplay exactly right. its fun, it pulls you into the world of Dominus and with the personalities of your characters, you find yourself involved and caring about everything that happens.
::looks around at everyone else:: i don't think i am alone in saying that when a certain baddie in the demo proceeded to "snack" on your teammates, it was agonizing.

i don't see how anyone who loves crpgs, good storylines, and involving gameplay could be anything but totally immersed in this game.

remember, this is fileplanet, so scroll down to the bottom of the page for the regular, free servers. i think they are despicable, but when desperate, i hold my nose and download. LOL!

ppps:: on the fileplanet downloads, remember to click the button with the word DOWNLOAD, on the left side. if you click the name of the server instead, you will go to that server's site and then be all mixed up as to what's going on. (.... well!?!!?!! it happens to me. ppbbh!!)

Wizadry 8 demo, played for one hour..
Oki, honestly I had a bad headache when I started and didn´t feel to well, this is waht I found out.

Good points.
- Cool RPG elements, and nice character developements (at least I think so..)
- Ordered battle
- Nice interface
- Could be a cool story, was to busy killing crabs, and bats, and bugs and and...

Bad things.
- Car sickness.. Ziroc, you are not alone!! [img]smile.gif[/img]
- Intuitive my butt!! I need to get used to it plain and simple.
- Why can´t my party move in combat?? Or how do I do it..
- That mouselook thing, is a control from hell!
- No more autopan.. urrrk... I don´t feel so well

..........
All in all, I liked it, but the carsickness sympthoms and the dizzy feelings, and some small things that might be due to a demo, and me not knowing, this can indeed turn out a cool game.
P:S Why does my bard speak with a french accent?? D.S

Glad you tried the demo. Having the manual will help greatly, like with the interface buttons, et al. Actually, I think there's a manual .doc file in the game folder; should be in something like C:\Program Files\Sir-Tech Canada\Wizardry 8 Demo\ or something like that.

Can't help you with the car-sickness thing...something you have to kind of get used to. Best thing to do is keep your view as steady as possible when moving around, and only "look around" when stationary. Move by holding down both the mouse buttons, and look around by holding down only the right one.

To move during combat, there's a little icon near the bottom right of the screen for the "walk" option, and you can choose either to walk or run. Of course, the monsters get a "shot" in on you, but hopefully that won't be too bad.

If you go into your options screen, you can turn off Autopan...click the gear button at the bottom left of the screen and then click on "Graphic options"...find the one that lets you turn off autopan.

The voices are customizable when you get the full version; other than that, they use the default voices for each class/race. Rangers have a default voice that's a REALLY bad French accent. However, in the full game, you can choose voices from nine different personalities: Aggressive, Chaotic (which I LOVE), Friendly, Intellectual, Cunning, Laid-Back, Burly, Eccentric, or Loner. There are four voices available under each one, two for male and two for female.

Hope this helps clear up a little bit of the confusion. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Well, I tried that little walk thing, and well, perhaps if I find that file you mentioned I might get the thing to work.. Did I mention that I´m already stuck?? Hehe. Well I think that this game is alot like the old "Bards tale" and I have so far not been to interested in such games, but since I felt that this might actually have something worthwhile to offer I will give it a couple of more tries!

Thanks for the info man! [img]smile.gif[/img] I have yet to try out the Star wars RTS demo as well, and make some fine tuning for an adventure for the france trip.. Hmm, giant crabs?? Hehe! [img]smile.gif[/img]
