I just uploaded my first design. It's a translation of the classic FRUA design, "Thieve's Run" by Dany Autery.

Everything should be in good working order. (My fingers are crossed.) If you find any bugs, errors or have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me. Or post it here or at yahoo, whatever you want to do.

The file is available at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UAForever/files/ and is called tr_dsn.zip. Sorry to those of you that don't like yahoo, but the file is too big to host at one of my own sites.

Enjoy!

So this brings the total available fully playable mods to 2?

Looks like I need to get busy (with mods, art, music, and a whole lot more...), and the dude who is fixing my laptop is giving it back tomoro!!! WooHoo!!!

SilentThief
PS, this means I'll definately "throw down" for the next art contest.

Pfffft, you will have to beat me first

BTW, the mod sounds good Manikus, when I finally get Dungeoncraft working, I will play it and see just how good it is

I am temporarily dismotivated by the response to Thieves Run, so I've stopped work on Dungeoneer and the mini-mods.

What has the response to Thieves Run been? Why has it unmotivated you?

Don't be disheartened Manikus. If it wasn't for this time of year being so busy with everyone, myself included, I'm sure more people would be playing your mod.

I've only just made up a party of characters and will be playing it during the week in my free time. And I'll definitely give you feedback when I've finished.

Hey, man. I gotch-ya on this one. What you're suffering from is post-mod-making anxiety. What happens is someone creates a mod, puts their time an effort into it and the releases it into the public and response to it is virtually non-existant. There are several studies done for this, the one I agree with most is "Mod your mods mod: a modern approach to depression and anxiety of a FRUA module maker" $34.95 Xantham books 1994, William Kerns; Doctor and Professor of mental health studies of Video & Computer Gaming, UCLA. His studies have shown some interesting facts on this, like it is cyclical (shows up more during holidays and other stressful/social times), it is a self-sustaining/self-defeating mental state, and most important IT IS CURABLE. The most successful treatments to date have a variety of different approaches, and I'll outline a few here (please don't mind the latin names, I'll explain what they mean afterwords):

"Betterus Modulus", this treatment, focusing on the self-belief of the next idea is always better than that of the current one, as in the desire to make newer/bigger/better/badder mods, but the treatment should be in small focused steps, as extreme cases show that too much causes other negative states such as to scrap each and every mod as the current one isn't good enough.

"Examplus Exemplus", this treatment goes on the opinion that playing other ppls mods will motivate the self to make mods. This one unfortunately may not be available to you at this time (we have only 2 playable mods, 1 of which is your own... sorry). Dr. Kerns suggests that alternate forms of treatment include Goldbox games, morrowind, various RPGs. For a complete listing, I'll PM you.

"Vacationus Awayus", this is perhaps the most successful and widely accepted method of treatment. The self sometimes needs a small "break" from the processes. This break can consist of any non-FRUA (and of course, non-DC) related activity. Various other non-modmaking FRUA activities (such as art/music) have met with varying success as well. The length of the "break" is dependent on the self, as forcing premature reestablishment of full FRUA activity has shown to be negatively impacting on the mod-makers state of mind.

"Humorous Laughilus", Some studies found that situations involving humor and/or play have helped to speed recovery, but futher research is needed as DR. Kerns and his contemporaries in the field of videogame/computer game mental research have a huge divide over whether or not this will fully recover the self, or if it is in fact just a temporary lifting of stress/anxiety. Everyone involved has concluded that it is, if not a full treatment; at least a temporary "push in the right direction"

---

Hope you got a laugh out of the above, that was my motive.

"temporarily"
That means that you already admit that you will be becoming motivated soon.

The end of December is the worst time of year for most ppl, as evidence for that look at all the lack of posting of msgs on the msg boards during the end of last month. Now that the new year is on, things will be better.
(This year is already going far better for me, as two of the three biggest complaints with life I had prior to the new year have been taken care of (happy new year, Woo hoo!!!)).

I have been busy to the extreme (quick example of what I juggle: work, Band, looking for new job, negotiating visitation of daughter with daughters mom, working with buddy/business parter to get own business(es) going, somehow I find time to occasionally sleep , and various necessary weekly duties (laundry, for example; however I'm behind on that one...)) With work and everything else the time for games is almost non-existant right now. However, I will be DL-ing it (and a bunch of other DC and music related stuff) prolly after payday (get hi-speed internet so I can actually have a connection to internet on laptop cuz I don't have one yet, and that won't happen til I get some $$) in about a week and playing it then. I'm looking forward to it, tho.

I will get the chance to out your mod, hopefully soon, but in the meantime keep yer head up... cuz I'm thinking with the return of the normal way of life after the holidays you'll see people get into your mod.

Thanks guys.
Now that I'm through laughing, I can write a response. (I'm in the library so a few people are stareing at me.)

I'm taking a break to play Dungeon Siege again. I'm actually not going to do anything DC related until February, if I can hold out that long. Of course, I'll be reading the forum and answering and stuff.

I would really like to come back to DC earlier than Feb, but only will if it's to play modules.

manikus,

I have just downloaded your Thieve's Run last night. I had to re-install UAF to better organize it. I have the regular DC art and one with only the FRAU.
art.

I think ya got a bug dealing with your sound. I install your mod in my dc dir of UAFand installed the update. I then copied the UAFWIN file into the Thieve's Run design. Started 6 characters. Once I started play had no sound. It is quite as a tomb even during the first combat encounter.

Thanks for the heads up.
I easily figured out what the problem was, but not whay it occurred. I'll send an email to Cocoaspud letting him know what happened, as I think there is a real bug at issue here, and not just sloppiness on my part.
