Hello guys,

your programm is really great. I am adapting some clerical spells for Dungeon Craft and i am really missing a way to see if the stats are changed or not.
It would be nice to see such things as damage bonus and so on in the character stats.
By the way there seems to be an error in the creation process for Warriors if i add points to the strength of a warrior, he can't get a score beyond 18, but the maximum strength is 18/00.
There are some racial abilities which allows a score beyond 18 an elf can have a dexterity of 19 and a dwarf can have a constitution of 19.

Keep up you great Work and thank you for your work.

Hi Grunt

I think that the stats might be modelled on the AD&D 3rd Edition Rules, which don't percentile strength.
Just a guess.

Hi guys

It seems the bug still hasn't been fixed up. I remember a post ealier saying that the percentile strength wasn't working and that Cocoaspud would look into it.

By now he's probably forgotten about it and needs someone to remind him so he can look into it.

And the system runs on AD&D 2nd ED rules, not the new rules.

Cheers

I always need reminding I try to keep lists but always fall short of being organized.

I recall someone mentioning the 18/100 bug before but I thought it was a problem with the editor NPC stat rolling rather than the editor.

DC does use the 2nd Ed rules. Well mostly, I have both 1st and 2nd Ed books laying around and use whichever is closer when I need to look something up.

I intentionally restricted character stat adjustment in the engine so that strength could not go above 18 for fighters, no increasing the 1-100 modifier. I only did that because it was the way the Gold Box games did it (or so my memory recalls). Same thing for scores above 18, although that can probably be fixed with a few adjustments to the race/class definitions.

What happens if the strength is 18/99 and the subtraction key is used? Does that give 18/98 with 1 point to assign elsewhere? If so, I can max out every other score by subtracting enough from the 18/98.

Same translation issue in reverse. Subtract 1 from dexterity and add it to a strength of 18/01. Do I get 18/02?

I can make it work just about anyway that is agreeable to everyone. I've been using my memories of the Gold Box games when adding this stuff.

The gold box games let you modify to whatever scores you wanted. (all 18's anyone).

I like the way you do it. with points taken off to be added elsewhere.

Handling the percentile strength: If strength for a fighter is raised to 18, roll percentile then and let it stay as it is. eg with str 17, take a point off int and add it to str, ok, str is now 18, that means we get exceptional str, roll of dice, a 45, ok. and that just cost 1 point, but the exceptional strength cant be modified. it stays at the rolled 45, If you take the point of (droping str back to 17) and then add it again, the exceptional str could be rerolled or reappear at 45. Either option is fine by me.

What do you think??

Jeremy

i like jeremy's idea. especially, for in-game character creation.

but for npc creation, i would like the ability to set the attributes to whatever i like, for example a thief with 20 dexterity. i've tried hexediting the saved character file, but haven't tried the npc data file.

(poking around in the files is half the fun!)

Ok, no editing of the percentile strength and it will be rolled when strength changes from 17 to 18.

I think the NPC editor lets you edit the scores. You can roll them with the button but you should be able to edit them directly also.

it does let you change the scores individually if you stay in the 3-18 range. i was just thinking of circumstances where i wanted an npc to have scores higher than 18.

Ok, I understand now. I think I can remove the limits in the NPC editor but I'm not sure how well some existing code will handle extreme values. A strength of 25 might work ok, but 125 may cause some trouble.

Is there a real limit such as 25?

that would be great!

in 2nd edition there is a limit of 25 for all of the attributes. i'm not sure about 1st edition, i think it's the same.
