An unfinished tale by J.R.R. Tolkien has been edited by his son into a completed work and will be released next spring, the U.S. and British publishers announced Monday.

I wonder how it's going to turn out. Any lore expert know more on "The Children of Hurin"?

Sounds interesting.

You know, I loved Tolkien's short stories that he later made into books. Ever read "Farmer Giles of Ham" or "Smith of Wooten Major"? They were so light and charming, almost like children's books with depth.

IMO this was easily the most tragic of the First Age stories detailed in Tolkiens various works.

It's the story of one of the great lords of the edain (sp?), humans who were faithful to the elves and valar and didn't follow Morgoth. Hurin had the strength to directly defy Morgoth, and for his temerity Morgoth cursed him and his family. Hurin was cursed to sit frozen and watch through Morgoths eyes as he destroyed Hurins family. The story follows primarily the life of his son Turin Turumbar as he grows into a man and falls victim to the curse.

It is one of the stories from the Silmarillion that was definitely worthy to be made into a full novel.

Yea... they were basically 'married' and she was pregnant at the point where they found out they were related.

I could not agree more. That is one of the most memorable sections of that book.
