Question regarding the TV series Dark Angel

Hey all!

I happened to see an episode of Dark Angel on TV some months ago and got interested in the show, so I rented it on Netflixs. I have watched Season 1 and enjoyed it. Now I am watching Season 2 and I almost have to force myself to watch the episodes. What happened to the show? What is the deal with the lame mutant characters (like the stupid half-dog genetic freak)? Why is the main character, who used to be a tough badass who didn't take crap from anyone, now Mother Teresa to the rejects of the world? What happened to the main plot of the first season which was trying to find the rest of the kids who escaped? I know they did not find all 12 of them. Did Max just decide one day "hm, I think I will forget about my brothers and sisters that I have spent years looking for and and help Fred the Freak to become a better person"?

My question is: Does the season get better or should I just stop watching right now and move on to greener pastures? I am currently on the 6th or 8th episode. All I can say is that if the show continues as it is, then it is no wonder the series was cancelled. Too bad, the first season was interesting....

There's a reason the show never continued past the second season, an interesting concept turned to crap after the first season when they lost sight of the the characters' motivations.
