Mark Burnett -- Jump In

Just finished reading Jump In, which is an autobiographical account of parts of Mark Burnett's life. He's the producer of Survivor, Eco-Challenge, the Apprentice, the Amazing Race, and several other reality shows.

Quite interesting in a lot of ways. First, for his background... he was a British paratrooper who moved to Los Angeles with $600 in his pocket and decided to do something with his life... he's succeeded

Second, a lot of background stuff on how the various shows have been put together, including a lot of stuff on the logistical challenges of putting them on as well as the challenges of some of the shoots.

Quite enjoyable, but there were a few areas I wish he'd explained more. He spent a lot of time on the development of the shows, and I would have liked more on the development of his business. Still, I got a lot out of it.

Figured I'd share the thoughts... it should be of interest to fans of his shows or folks looking for inspiration to Jump In.

So did he talk about what it's like when they are filming Survivor? I imagine he could probably have a book on just that LOL. Interesting he was a paratrooper, I'd have never guess that one.

Wow! Someone decided to spam a two-year-old thread? Who'd a thunk it?

Anyway, as I dig back into my memory banks, I *think* he did talk about some of the filming experiences. I'll take a look when I get back home later this week.

And yeah, paratrooper. From that to selling T-shirts on the streets of California... and then to Survivor and beyond.

Just checked... he had a chapter on the filming of the first Survivor. Nothing in great intensive detail, but shares a bit about what he was looking at and trying to do there. Interestingly, the crew's quarters were only slightly better than the tribe members' quarters...
