Some spoilers, perhaps...
I've recently re-read the original 2 trilogies and convinced my wife to read them as well. Now as I read the short stories (Tales 1-3) about Palin and his brothers, I find myself wanted to get up to date on the DL world. I know a little about things that happen in the "next generation", but would like to read up on the "main" story, if you will. I believe there is now a female character running around who is Caramon's granddaughter or something. Can anyone suggest the core books I need to read? I am not so much into the short stories or stories about other characters (although some have been pretty good). I mainly want to follow the descendants of the original companions. Anyone?

Dragons of Summer Flame, then War of Souls. Those are the Weiss-Hickmann written books, and they feature all the descendants we know and love.

You could also pick up the 3E campaign setting, which takes place AFAICT after the War of Souls and I've heard is pretty good.

the Raistlin one is one of the Prequels (which I can't stand because it screws with the presentation of the characters in the original Legends trilogy)
Spring Dawning IIRC is the one where they use the lances, although it might be at the end of Dragons of Winter Night.

If you mean the ORIGINAL lances, then you need to go back to the Legend of Huma.

The Legend of Huma is the only non-Weis/Hickman Dragonlance novel I ever liked.

I liked the draconian engineer books (which were Weis/Perrin) And Don Perrin isn't bad, but he's no Knaak.

There is a short story about Raist and his tests, but there is also the novel Soulforge.
I didn't realize there was a book following DoSF. It seemed so... final. |
