I have been working the night shift lately and that leaves me with lots of time on my hands. I have read all the books I have been wanting to and have tus gone back to re-read books that I enjoyed, including the Dragonlance books (done Chronicles and Legends, will probably re-read selected others.)
Having read the DL books again, I found I still really enjoyed them and have been drawn back into that world. I found myself reading up on what is transpiring in the DL world now and am quite upset.

Spoilers for those not up-to-date on the books (I have not read them myself-- this is based on info gleaned from the net and the DL sourcebook for D+D 3rd ed)

Why do they feel the need to kill everyone?
When Sturm died, I was crushed, but thought it was an important part of the story. But now it seems like everyone has to die.
Sturm: killed
Tanis: killed
Flint: dead of heart attack
Tasselhoff: killed
Riverwind and his daughter: killed
Tanin Majere: killed
Sturm Majere: killed
Kitiara: killed (as I recall-- I am reading Legends Volume 3 and I think she dies here)
Steel Brightblade: Killed

There may be others I don't know of. Is Raistlin dead? I hear he was involved in the events that lead up to the death of Takhisis.
Did Caramon die a horrible death? Or did he just suffer the loss of many friends, his brother, two sons...
Forgotten Realms= Nobody dies
Dragonlance= everybody dies

What's up with that?

Anyhow, what is the current status of Raistlin?
Thoughts, anyone?

Dragonlance is a bit different world than the forgotten realms I'd say. It's not a particularly friendly world and instead of the powergaming type of style dragonlance characters seemed a lot more real to me. I like Dragonlance better. You can only do so much in life and after some time you'll die.

BTW did you also read the 'War of souls' trilogy? Cause I think some of the deaths of those characters are in there and one reappears

I never understood why people were supprised about Sturm. He had to die, it was more or less his purpose in the books, and it is fortold well in advance of it actually happening.

Yeah, I know his death was foreshadowed (fairly obviously, too), but I just wasn't used to seeing characters in fantasy novels actually die and stay dead. Plus, there was the fact that at the time he was my absolute favourite character...

You haven't read the War of Souls trilogy yet isn't it cause you say characters stay dead.

Oh God War of Souls is TERRIBLE, the writing seemed to take a tale spin, the plot, while interesting simply seems WRONG in comparison to the other books. I avoid 5th age stuff like the plague. DL stopped being good Summer of Chaos thing came along IMHO, the best characters are the original ones.

Dragons of Summer Flame was the end of Dragonlance, as far as I'm concerned. And I've never been dissapointed since I made that statement.

I liked the war of souls as well. A bit different but it was great to have Tas back again. The only thing that keeps me from reading DL novels is that the author isn't Weis&Hickman. Just think they'll be disappointing after Legends and Chronicles.

When Sturm died I was sad. When Flint died I was even more sad. When other people died...meh. Just not so tragic after the first two. Just rereading the DL Chronicles now, on Dragons of Summer Flame, so it's all fresh again. One of the dubious benefits of a poor memory, I guess.
