Does anyone else find it annoying that TV shows you grew up with (older IW members) are being remade as comedies? I haven't seen Starsky and Hutch, but was disappointed to see that it is a spoof. Sure the original show wasn't exactly high drama, but I find it disrespectful. When I heard that Jim Carey would be doing The Six Million Dollar Man, I groaned, thinking it would suck, but hoping that they might do an okay job. He has done some more serious roles, after all. But in a recent interview, he admitted that it will be a spoof and made a comment about how it can't be serious with a name like Six Million, as if that is not enough money (which it wouldn't be in today's world, to make a cyborg...) Still, I now have visions of Steve Austin rusting, or malfunctioning to "comedic effect".
I wonder if in the next couple of years we'll see ER: the comedy...

I have to agree, Arnabas. I didn't go see Starsky and Hutch, nor do I plan to - especially when I heard it was just a comedy spoof of the orginal show. I agree that it may not have been high drama, but it definitely made lots of guys want to buy that cool Gran Torino with the "Starsky" paint job. (in fact, my cousin dated a guy that DID have a "Starsky-mobile - only his was silver with a blue stripe).
I admit that - looking back - most of the 70's shows appear terribly "cheesy" now...but this was many years BEFORE the "desktop computer" was a common item. Any that existed back then were strictly CEO desktop material. And TV shows just didn't have the technology or equipment they have today. That still isn't a reason to disrespect them by making comedy movies out of former drama series. I shudder to think what the remake of CHiPs would look like - since it started off with a bit of a comedy format anyway before switching to full drama.

How about the awful remakes of cartoons? Like He-Man! *Shudders* Thank you, Cartoon Network, for ruining what little I remembered of my childhood cartoons!

I despise almost all remakes. Period. Doesn't matter if it is music, movies, television, etc. I have no plans whatsover to see Starsky and Hutch, especially since I remember the original show. I also remember the Six Million Dollar Man all to well, and just thinking about him in that role spoofing it makes me want to send a letter bomb to him and/or his agent. That reminds me about that talk of a Superman remake, with all of his powers coming from the costume (who can name the TV show this idea came from?
![]() It all comes down to making money. They'll do anything to get your money, even if it means rehashing/ripping off an old, once successful idea. They're even doing the Stepford Wives again, and I've heard talk of a remake of the Amityville Horror. Needless to say, I won't be wasting any of my money on that garbage.

I'll probably get flak for this, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Starsky and Hutch film. Yes, it is funny, but it has its serious moments. Of course, I've never seen the original series, so I can't compare it to anything. I think it does help if you've never seen the original, as you don't see it as much as a ruining of a decent TV show.
I cannot deny that I loved the film, though. [ 03-17-2004, 01:05 PM: Message edited by: slicer15 ] |

I don't remember watching "Shaft" TV series, but the movie was pretty good... Samuel L. Jackson kicked ass!
