This week I am reviewing the movie From Hell starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham!

I thought this movie had a great style and atmosphere. It is very dark and dirty looking, and the soundtrack is fantastic. The story of Jack the Ripper has always fascinated me, particularly as they never found him.

The story that is weaved through this movie is OK I guess, but certainly not edge of your seat stuff. I think it relies heavily on its visuals, rather than actual plot. It is certainly not for the weak of heart, but then again not gratuitously over the top gory either (and considering the subject, it could have been)! The acting is very good (except Heather seems somewhat out of place).

There were a few things that bothered me about the ending, of which I obviously will not go into here! I do have to question why they finished it the way they did. Maybe I simply misunderstood something.

I recommend this movie to anyone who likes a mystery thriller with a slightly horror tinge to it. It is a case of style over substance, but what remains is enjoyable nonetheless. I give it 7 out of 10.

Avi, Im not trying to be critical or nasty in any way shape or form, but do you *have* to do horror all the time? cant you do something else for once? pretty please? lol, or change the title; 'Avi's Horror move review' or something... just a thought..

Sorry CD, but if you go through all my reviews here you will find things like The Deer Hunter, Minority Report and The Great Escape as well.

It does seem like I'm forever reviewing horror movies, but that's just the way it's worked out recently.

I will make a conscious effort to do some non-horror reviews soon, although I am going to see Blade II tonight. What can I say, I like Horror and Sci Fi.

Avi.
