Im curious guys, ive come across very few authors from Australia and living way off in Ireland I dont have huge opertunitys to investigate. I have read David Malouf and Peter Carey and they are both amazing, especially Malouf, and I want more. So anybody who knows about any Australian authors on the same level as these 2 please do tell.

The only thing I know about Australian literature is the following joke:
Q. Whats the difference between Australians and a yoghurt? A. If you leave the yoghurt for long enough it will develop a culture. Davros, Yorick, Memnoch... don't hurt me... please?

Jabidas, Bryce Courtenay writes excellent Australian literature. Try The Potato Factory; this is the first book in a trilogy about British convicts being sent to Tasmania in the 1800s. Just as an aside, have you read any Leon Uris? Redemption was excellent, about and Irish family in New Zealand, and their history in Ireland. It also includes a large section on the Australian and New Zealand involvement in Gallipoli, which is very interesting.
