I have read nearly ever one of R. A. Salvatore's books But the last 2 about Drizzt, Wulfgar and the bunch have been a little rushed. The stories don't seem to be as deep or as well thought as the first 7 or 8. Is it time to take a break for a few years and explore other characters? I loved the Drizzt books they sit proudly on my shelf but I don't want to go too the bookstore and start bypassing new Drizzt books because of lack of interest. This may be just me. I was just wondering if anybody else felt the same way.

Personally, I'm getting a little sick of Drizzt as well. He started out a GREAT character. The Dark Elf Trilogy was simply amazing. But, I think he's become a little TOO virtuous. I mean the guy is completely anti-alcohol and anti-sex. He's turned into a humorless perfectionist that is hard to relate to. I think it would have been more interesting if Drizzt had an internal struggle to deal with, like Liriel from Elaine Cunningham's Daughter of the Drow and Tangled Webs who actually behaved like she was Drow. Liriel was over all a good person, but she still clung to some of her Drow instincts which made her character seem more realistic since she had a FLAW. Drizzt has no flaws, besides the fact that he is so perfect that he's annoying.

A definite yes.
As others have said, Drizzt was great for quite a while, but now has become just a little bit stale. Salvatore should take a rest and re-assess the character and the situations he puts him in. It might be that the reason the last few books have seemed rushed is that Salvatore's getting just a little fed up with writing about Drizzt & co..

Thank you all. It's good to know I'm not the only one out there having these thoughts. I guess that's the whole point of forums like this.
