I've just ordered a paperback version of Servant of the Shard by Bob Salvatore from BookZone. It's costing me £15.99 inc. VAT + £1.68 P&P.
Is it me, or are the cost of fantasy books going through the roof?

I'm assuming that's some kind of trade paperback edition and not mass market; otherwise, the price seems rather excessive, even in today's market.

[Sigh, I still remember buying paperbacks for one US dollar. God, I feel old!]

This probably sounds like a silly question, but what is the difference between a trade paperback and the normal books?

Tell me about it! I bought the same book a few months ago and I couldn't believe the price. Maybe it's just a case of Mr. Salvatore falling for his own hype and deciding he can start charging this. I've just been out and bought a couple of paperbacks myself and I'm amazed at how close most paperbacks are to that magical £10 mark!

The price of books is outrageous!
Where the hell does the world come off
selling books...books!...for such ridiculous
prices?!
Has the cost of paper gone up 1000% in the last 15 years?

I'm the type of person who loves to have a big book collection.
A personal library so to speak. The only books i buy anymore are from
the used book stores...i just can't afford to buy new books...which sucks.
How soon until the used books are charging too much?
How long until the library charges?
The price tag on knowledge is getting to the point where
only the rich can afford it.

I agree, book prices have almost doubled in the past 15 years. Thing is I love them so much I just keep buying them. Kinda hard to go on strike

I just asked my wife how much 15 pounds was in US currency, and she thinks it is like $30.00. What the flip? I pay $5.99, the same that it costs me for a Chicken Fillet combo (Large Fries and drink),
And you are paying for the cost of a week and a half worth of Gasoline for a car!

THE OVER-PRICED BOOK MYSTERY - RESOLVED!

I received the book this morning - and low & behold, it's a hardback and NOT a paperback (as advertised).
I'll sent an email to BookZone letting them know.

Still, books ARE too expensive. Over here in the UK there was an official price fixing 'deal' that kept the cost of the written word (in book form, anyway) low.
When that deal was abandoned, we were told a free market policy would make things competetive and prices would fall. Guess what? They went up. Oh well.

Moan over

In the last 10-11 years in this country anyway paperback book prices have almost doubled , a book I would have paid £4.99 for in Irish pounds now costs upwards of £8.99. Hardback books do not show nearly the same growth in prices which I can only assume means the publishers are scamming us for all they are worth. Not that I object too much , for the enjoyment I get from them it's certainly worth the price and who am I too object after all if the authors and companies who facilitate one of my favourite hobbies make a profit.
