When I was 5, a couple decades ago, I was introduced to fantasy writing.
My mother bought me a bunch of used Conan books. At the time this was awesome.
I still go back and read some of them now and again.
But man, that was the best and growing up Conan was my hero.
As I got older I discovered newer and better books in newer and better worlds, but still Conan is what got me into fantasy writing and for that matter comic books too.
Is there anyone else out there who enjoyed these books?
My favorite story was always 'Red Nails' followed by 'the God in the Bowl'
Some of those short ones are pretty original.
There is also a real good movie (IMHO) called "Whole Wide World' based on a book that I have not read. Have you read it?
It stars Vincent D'Onofrio and Rene Zellwegger and I really enjoyed this romance story and would reccommend it. It offers a very interesting view of this enigmatic writer.

Excellent books really enjoyable moreso than all the rewrites that other authors(notably Robert Jordan) have done. If you are interested they have now been collected and published in a Fantasy masterworks collection. Just search for the authors name on Amazon and it should come up with the listing.
Yes I have seen that film as well wasn't that fond of the film really.

Oooh, reprinted Conan novels... about time. As for newer and better... simply not so Newer and different, sure. Complete novels as opposed to short stories, sure. But for a compelling character, for awesome short stories, none can match Conan.

Never to old to read anything Fljotsdale. But you should definetly check out the Robert E. Howard ones.
I've only read a couple of the Jordan ones and a couple by other writers. They just don't compare to the original authors.
Although L. Sprague de Camp's and Lin Carter's are pretty good.
