My tastes lean more towards fantasy fiction than science fiction. You might even say I'm a fantasy fiction nut. I got started on fantasy fiction pretty late in life (I read the Hobbit when I was almost 20), but from there on I tried to make up for lost time and read voraciously. During my years in college, I was reading about 1 book per week - anything I could get my hands on. Authors such as Tolkein, Stephen Donaldson, David Eddings, Raymond Feist, Piers Anthony, Anne McAffrey, Ursula K. Le Guin, AD&D books, etc., etc.

While I have read about 6 or 7 books in the Xanth series, I found Anthony's penchant for puns a little trite. I enjoyed his Blue Adept series much more.

Ziroc and Zoric Sorry that just struck me as funny

I'm a huge fan of Ursula Le Guin. I remember a book she wrote, A Wrinkle in Time, and the 2 after that, were brilliant. I can't seem to find those kinds of books anymore.

Never read that one - I just read the Wizard of Earthsea series. There were a lot of other series that I never managed to complete after finishing university. Unfortunately, books in the fantasy fiction genre are not readily available here in Bangkok (thank god for Amazon.com). I read 2 books in Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series, but never found the others. Same with a great book by Steven Brust, "Jhereg", and also the Warlock series by Christopher Stasheff - oh, I could go on and on.

Zoric is the missing link between Ziroc and Yorick.
Momnech, Ziroc, alas no, I've not read the Xanth series.

I'd love to hear more about these books. What manner of fantasy are they?

I read "A spell for chamleon" and I think that was a Xanth book (if so then it was the first). I personally prefer more serious, heavy, stuff like "The left hand of darkness" (Ursula. Le. Guin) and The Dragon King trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. I've got the first three foundation books on tape (glorious BBC ) and have the fourth (unread) on my shelf. I recently listened to the whole lot again and decided that I might want to actually read them (Jurney Into Space wasn't bad either, only ever a BBC broadcast but pretty incredible for a cast of five with only about three sound effects).

I've read some Ursula Le Guin in my day. Curious though, I know a Madeleine L'Engle's work called A Wrinkle in Time, but not Le Guin's.

Ziroc, Yes to both! Gee, I feel like Renaissance Cloud here...I have eclectic tastes...Asimov, Anthony....what the heck! Been a while since I read either. I stopped in the Xanth books about 3 yrs back so I'm waaaaya behind! I think the last one I remember had Com Pewter in it...sigh...fun stuff! I loved Grundy the Golem...hahahahaha! I'd love to pop out of Mundania to visit a bit sometime...gota figure out what book I need to pick up with.

Foundation Series , I read much farther back than that...I have the hardcover editions from the Science Fiction Book club around here somewhere, in a box in the basement no doubt.

Left Hand of Darkness, was awesome and definitely heavy. Read it in a college Science Fiction class, years back. But it sure made an impact when we read it! I tend to go from one end of the spectrum to the other. I like variety and I like a good read. Whether it make me think hard or feel strongly or just plain laugh myself silly, if it's good reading it doesn't have to fit a particular genre or style for me to call it 'good'.

Wish I had more time for reading these days. Have been slogging through some light mysteries and now The Simbul's Gift and some other FR books.
