Having done the dpg's several times I'm in a position to warn fellow undermountainers, and people have asked for this information at swordpoint. I refer to the Drow Proving Grounds, in particular their rewards. I believe that it the first recognised character class taken that generates the reward. I will warn single class paladins, rangers and barbarians that they will recieve no extra reward for this difficult quest. I'm going to list the items recieved from each quest for each character class and my biased opinions now, so spoilers I suppose: Oh btw please feel free to point out my mistakes...

Here we go:
Mage - Amulet of Spell Binding. Not very good imho
Monk - Sun Lee's Guantlets of Pain. +11 to hit for fisty monks plus other bonuses, not bad for monks.
Rogue - Shadow Boots of Speed. Not as good other boots availiable, but does give some decent skill plusses.
Bard - Chimes of Power. A few unlimited spells, not that good.
Cleric - Robes of the Light. Not bad but only no armour +9 so make sure that your extra spells work!
Fighter - Drow longsword of chilling speed. A good longsword, +9 to hit, loads of cold damage, imp evasion, etc
Dwarf (fighter) - Razor's Edge +9 batttleaxe with extras.
I was quite surprised by the dwarf result so I'm not sure if there are more combinations out there.

That's a quick response! I can give more details for each item, but'll mean logging in loads of times.

Like Roddybug, I only saw Razor's edge the other day and wonder if anything else is out there (has anyone done the dpg with a Blackguard or Assassin?).

I'm not so sure that what item you get depends on the first class taken. I have gone through the dpg with various builds and it seems that some classes are given priority when deciding the reward.

For instance any build of mine that has taken level(s) of Monk at any point has always ended up with Su Lee's (bless her - or him) gloves whatever class I started off with. Same when I have taken Bard levels to get to RDD - I always seem to end up with the chimes.

Pity about that 'cos what I usually want is the sword.

You know, I usually don't pay much attention to that reward, the best reward is the key...Which the locked door should take, IMHO. With the stuff in the back room, and the stuff you pillage from the rotting drow corpses, that reward from the door guard seems a mite pale. Except for those gloves, gotta get my monk through their.

I don't do assasin or blackguard, I'm far too squishy for stuff like that! I do have a hard carapice though...

My favourite item is still the cape you receive at the end of it all. That is quite possibly my favourite item in the game thus far (aside from Mordenkainen's Longsword). I have to admit, barbarians do get shafted if they don't get anything specific to them. Oh well, maybe there will be something in the next update for them as well as for paladins and rangers. Hrmmm...

Mmmm, gotta love that cloak, I think that all my characters of a certain level wear it. Moz, I do reckon that this will be fixed in the update, I did make noises many months ago. I really posted this because I was asked to and to warn fellow Undermountainers, it's a pain to see so much effort go down the pan. Another warning that I can give is that all the stones you have are eaten up when you cash in one full set, you may have beaten Zass three times but you lose all three stones of Cootus if you cash in the full set.

Another thing; I could give more information on the stats of the rewards, updating as I log-on. I'm not sure that it's not giving away too much. Currently it's vague enough, I like being vague but if people want to know...

I've just tried to get Razor's Edge using a pure-class Dwarf Fighter.

He was rewarded with the Longsword of Chilling Speed, and not Razor's Edge.

Could someone please clafify exactly how to get Razor's Edge, thanks.
