To Ziroc:

would it be possible for a de-leveler character to be presented in the Inn? that way, you wouldn't have to deal with (as many) request by people (such as myself, as I suck in character design for this game) to remove characters from the accounts. anyone who had a character which failed in their design would then be able to simply lose levels by talking to this character and having them dropped in degrees. (1 level, 2 levels, 5 levels, 10 levels, back to starting level). I guess an appropriate cost for such a (service) would be the loss of level * 1000 in gold to that character. (not that it cannot be made back easily enough, though.) the character would retain all their items and such already gained, but lose all the powers of that level they were at. so people could even try multiple possibilities with the same character before finally selecting one that they liked. just an idea that I should have remembered a LONG time ago from the offline modules I enjoy.

posting this idea out there to be mulled over and debated by the rest of the people here.

There's a big problem with delevelling. It doesn't usually take the feats/skills you add, at least not in my experience. It makes for illegal chars that cannot be played.

that is strange. I should check out the module I have then which allows for it. it is one of those "boost up to level 40" setups, so I can make a test character, put them up about ten levels, drop them back to level 1 and see what happens.

Even if it could be done you'd need to completely strip the character back to the original levels. Keeping uber powerful items would cause a certain amount of unbalance.

Z could use the script in Chewies Leveler mod.

Im pretty sure it strips you right back including feats and skills acquired.

I found that if I just restart with a new character that works the best.

ah, but the issue I am getting at is the fact that even though starting off with new characters is, in fact, easier, it is the wonderful joys of looking through all those failed characters and having to select the character you want. the problem is when you want to redesign the exact same character because you know you screwed up somewhere (e.g. Linu Li'neral from the OC as a player character). now, if I want to make the best version of her as a true cleric, and I screwed up in her build, making her over again is easy. the issue is when you have five or seven or twelve versions of the exact same character in your listing. unlike when you are at home and may freely delete the characters you don't want, on a servervault setup you do not have that option. so I was trying for a solution that didn't involve nagging Our Provider Ziroc all the time with requests for "could you remove this character for me?" as well, if I have forgotten to save a version of the character on my own hard drive, then I will have lost whatever backstory I wrote up for them to use later. (that's another tale about how I have to learn how to use LETO in order to get the info off my own characters to write up tales for them.)

Considering the number of people actually playing online, Bioware should maybe have added support for the delete button on server vaults. I have seen the way too many chars thing on more than one server, and it is a drain on resources to have 50 or 60 chars in a vault. Not so bad, if just one player is doing it, but when 20 are...

I believe there are some server tools now that allow you to delete characters off the server vault.

I remember sending them to Z a while ago (but they are a bit buggy) so thats why they weren't implemented.

I think if we could put in a deleveler in somewhere off the beaten track as to not take away from the feel of the mod it would assist some people.

My feeling would be for the deleveler to strip the character of all weapons/armour/gold reset them to level 7 and give them 100000 gold pieces so it is just like starting a new character.

You can't just go back one level you have to go all the way back.

Put your items in a chest, delevel, get them back.
