I made a new Barbarian character the other night and am about at the point where I will need to pick a weapon to focus in. Has to be one handed as to let him use a shield. Everyone I talk to seems to say that longswords rule in the undermountain, but I haven't seen any that were THAT great compared to other weapons. My guy currently has a warhammer with a +10 AB, divine damage added, bludgeoning resistance, some ridiculous enhancement bonus (maybe 13), and some other effects. I'm not where I can check the name of it, but I'm curious to see what longswords are out there that would be better. I mean, I'd prefer to have a warhammer swinging barbarian, but if there's a good reason to go longsword instead I would.

Overall, though, I'd like to know what the best weapons people have come by are? RTB - what's so special about the kukri on 8, etc.

Kukuri's have 18-20 threat range for more yummy dev crit action, plus they're tiny for good dual-wielding.

That sounds like the Valas Warhammer or the Merkyls Lair Warhammer (BTW the + 13 is only against outsiders)

The two best long swords are found in the proving grounds (+10), There is a awsome shortsword there as well. a + 9 bleeding Kukri can be found on Level 8.

The best Greataxe can be found at the end of the proving grounds.

The best quarterstaff (for a fighter) can be found on Level 11 & level 12.

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys, but I'm more looking for specifics on weapons found in the Undermountain, such as AB, enhancement bonus, special damage modifiers, etc.

As for Kukri's, I was referencing Robert the Bard's post in this forum about finding the one on level 8 and subsequent ominous warning to pvp entrants now that he had it. I know the general benefits, but have never had the desire to use them. Just curious what, if anything, made the level 8 one so special.

[EDIT]

Thanks TDC - simultaneous posts- Valas is the Warhammer I have. Do you think that's the best warhammer out there, leaving me no other options? And do you think that the best longswords outperform it?

I've gotten the short sword from the proving grounds before, but can't remember if I've gotten either of the longswords...there are 3 I haven't been able to beat as of yet.

The longsword is on the Drow Champion.

the other one is the prize if you beat the proving grounds in a fighter class.

The level 8 one has a Bleeding ability that makes you lose HP until you use a heal spell/potion.

IIRC the DC in it is like 19 or 20 which is pretty easy to beat for a level 40 Character.

I just found the proving grounds today, beat all the enemies there (Bigby's crush, kill enemies with spells x 12) but I didn't find any greataxe through the 13th door.

There is a nice bow on one of the enemies in there, it either gives +fortitude or +discipline

What are some good wizard weapons (i'm an elf, so I can use longsword, rapier, longbow and shortbow as well as normal wizard weapons)? CON Boost, Bonus spell slots, epic spells, any sort of damage reduction and high Enchantment bonus or AB (I don't think they stack) are all good properties.

How about Greatswords?

Since my Paladin of Torm (Paladin/Champion of Torm) is using them primarily, I'd like to know

[/QUOTE]The great axe should be in the grand weapon rack near the stairwell up. Unless someone has beat you to it.

For a wizard I use the following wizard staffs

Staff of the Dragon (from the high Wizard on Level 12)
Shadowstepping Staff and andother good one can be obtained from a quest on level 13. Hint: look for the burning building.

A nice greatsword can be found off the half dragon in the entrance to level 13. its not as good as some of these weapons but it is still a nice sword with fire and negative energy damage.

And yes I spend to much time in EfU

Thanks.... good to know there's a neat sword awaiting me near the bottom of the place..... whenever I can get there >.>

(It's mostly because I got Improved Critical in greatswords, tis why I'm sticking with them)
