Finally trying to play Undermountain and realized that my little monk keeps getting waxed just in the basement (I run upstairs a lot and let the guards take care of me!). Questions: how do I see other players? Will their names be highlighted or green? Do I talk to them just like other NPCs? When I return to the main menu, does my game essentially save? Lastly, for now, I assume my first task is to get the basement cleared out (I have only 3 of the 7 seals). What's next? Thanks a lot and I look forward to cowering behind your epic characters. . .

Welcome to the fun of Undermountain.

Firstly to help you out in the basement there is a NPC called Cookie that you might want to talk to. He could help you out.

Other placers found by seeing who is online. They will essentially look like NPCs but you can walk up to them and type in Hi. Some times the nice ones will talk back.

As a servervault your character file is keep on the server so your details are constantly being updated. You can export your character to your HDD if you want to make sure its safe.

Hope this helps!

This may be overly simple, but I didn't realize it at first. One of the buttons in the top right hand corner of your screen (with map, inventory, character, etc.) will show you all other players on the server and whether or not they are in the same area as you. You can always type text down at the bottom of your screen and change talk to shout to get others to come help you out.

OK, that helped. Now, next questions. When I turn the game off, since there's no save, do I always end up with whatever items I have back at the beginning of the Inn? Basically, how do I know where to "save" and leave off? Second, does everyone have to respawn like 700 times (OK, exaggeration) to beat the drow warrior marauder guy? Third, say you've teamed up with someone (or multiple someones) - how do most of you kinda decide how far to play together, etc? Today I felt bad that I teamed up with another newbie like me but then had to leave 30 minutes later for lunch. Kinda left him shafted. Lastly, for now, I have completed Durgan's quest for the 7 insignia (although I had to talk to him again to re-activate it I guess). The drow and spiders still attack me when I go downstairs. Is that the way it always is? Further, is there more down there than I know? Should I just keep hacking away until I'm a certain level. The help page says to try waterdeep and the Tradeway (?). Can you tell I'm a bit type A?

I definitely am having fun just want to get these things worked out. Oh and no pause - drastically affects my style *grin*. Thanks a lot.

Yes you do end up with the items back at the inn if the server has been reset. If the server hasn't been reset you go back to where you were when you logged off.

If I team up I always let the person know how long I can be on for.

The basement is always hostile and the badguys do respawn.

Try the tradeway it will probably make for eaiser leveling up. Also try some of the henchies to help you out (a.k.a Cookie)

Thanks a lot. Cookie wouldn't follow me down into the basement (well, I guess basement of the basement). You know, the area with the two cannons? Is he supposed to? OK, I'll try the tradeway and let you know how it went (unless it went very bad and then I won't! *grin*). Thanks again. Sounds like this module is huge!

OK, so suddenly Durnan has lots of good items so my guy (rather gal) is much better off than before. I went to Tradeway and every door on the map is blocked off. There are a bunch of ruins, etc which I can't get into. Then I decided to go to the sewers and ended up in Skullport. Wandered too far away and ended up attacked by the Xan------- guild people. Wow, that was a wake up call. So, where else should I go or just start taking it level by level? Thanks again as usual.
