I've had to install a new motherboard in my computer because the other
one blew up (Well...I didn't install it...a professional did ![]() Anyway, I've had to reinstall NWN and start all over again - which resulted in much weeping...I was at level 17 ![]() While the game runs the better than it did before (loads faster, graphics run flawless, not choppy like before), it will only play about 10 or 15 min. before it completely shuts my computer off (and it IS the game - I sat on the computer for about 5 hours this morning and it worked fine. I also tested on BG I and it does the same thing - shuts it off). Windows reported some error and sent me this: Solution found: install missing updates Thank you for submitting an error report. Problem description The error was likely caused by: Graphics Driver - VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP (vtdisp.dll) The Microsoft Windows Update website only provides drivers for specific hardware types. If a new driver for your device is not listed on the Microsoft Windows Update website, contact S3 Graphics Inc. online at http://www.s3graphics.com/DRVVIEW.HTM. I clicked on the link because the update didn't show anything that looked like what I needed, but I have NO idea what I'm looking for. Here's all my info: OS: WinXP Pro (5.1, Build 2600) System Manufacturer: Micro-Star International (motherboard) System Model: KM400-8235 Memory: 960 RAM DirectX Version: 9.0c Device: VIA/S3G Unichrome IGP Main Driver: vtdisp.dll Version: 6.14.0010.0113 I've done all the Direct 3D tests and they all work fine. Any help would be appreciated. Also, let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks! |

Sounds like your video crad drivers are on the fly.
What type of Video Card do you have and have you got the latest drivers for your card ?

I can't patch the game. The auto update won't do it for me and everytime I download the critical build it says it's corrupt when I try to run it.
And yes, my video card drivers are updated. |

You might check to see if your ram is seated properly. Sounds funny, but I have seen it cause crashes in some of the strangest ways. For some people, it crashes on specific tabs in the stores. This may not be the problem, probably isn't, but I'd check it to be sure.

I will probably end up calling the guy who installed it and ask him to fix whatever is causing this. Everything I download is corrupt (I tried getting adobe acrobat and that happened), so maybe it is a Windows problem (what a shock that would be /sarcasm). Also it seems like anything with funky graphics will cause the computer to shut off (like the visual screen for winamp with the visual effects that move to the music at full screen...turn the computer right off!)
It did have a long transport home, so it's possible something maybe came out part-way. |

The VIA/S3 sounds like a graphics driver problem. I'm guessing either onboard video, or an old video card.
Try running another 3d intense game and I'll bet the same problem occurs. I doubt it's a software problem, but more likely a hardware issue.
