Plane of Shadow

Been working at this for a few days, but keep getting frustrated and quitting. I'm trying to get the last wind in the Arcanist's Tower, and am going through the little maze thing. I'm just looking for ANY advice on how I'm supposed to get throught this, anything at all. From what I can tell I'm about half-way through, but am running seriously low on potions and stuff, and just want to get it over with.
So...help please?

The Shadovians, or whatever they're called, won't spawn in the shadow plane. So whenever you've defeated a batch, take the time to recuperate.

Other than that, all I can say is save often. If you manage to waste a few while only taking a few hits, save.

Try mapping the maze out. Keep careful notes of the locations of the portals, which ones you have entered and where you exit. A couple of tips:

(1)You will need to map both the arcanist tower level 2 and the shadow plane level as separate levels. Assign a single letter to each portal on the arcanist level and assign the same letter to the corresponding portal on the shadow plane level.

(2) There are a total of 24 portals on each level and each portal on the shadow plane corresponds to a single portal on the arcanist tower level. The portals ALWAYS lead to the same location regardless of the order you traverse them in or the level you enter or exit from.

(3) It pays to go thru every portal! There are some nice goodies that can be found in some of the chambers that are off the beaten path. However, in order to traverse every level some backtracking IS required.

(4) While it is true that the shadowspawn on the shadow plane will not respawn while you sleep, they WILL respawn if you traverse the same area TWICE with a portal jump in between.

If you want the fastest way thru the shadow plane / arcanist tower maze try this route:

On the first platform of the arcanist tower there are three portals; one to the west, one in the center, and one to the east (assuming that north is at the TOP of the map). Take the EASTERN most portal. This will drop you at the southern end of a shadow plane corridor.

Walk north (don't forget to pilfer the contents of the two weapon racks in this corridor), fight some shadovar at the north of this corridor and enter the portal. This transports you back to the arcanist tower level.

Walk east, then north, the west (this platform is shaped like a backwards block C) and then enter the portal. WHEEEE! We're back in the shadow plane again.

Walk west, take a short jog north and then west again. Fight some more shadovar then go back and loot the corpse and the chest. Now enter the western most portal.

It's deja vu all over again .. we're back on the arcanist tower level. Walk west, then south and west again and enter the portal. Okay this bit of the shadow plane is tricky. There are 4 possible portals including the one you just came thru. First of all, clean out the weapon rack behind you and the one across the way. Now turn west and then south and fight the shadovar at the end of this corridor. Don't forget to loot the chest. Now backtrack to the weapon racks and head DUE EAST! Make sure you are fully healed and buffed before continuing. Now enter the eastern most portal. It's back to the arcanist tower level 2 one more time.

Now clear off this platform and climb the central platform. EUREKA!!! There is the door to level 3 of the arcanist tower.
