How in the 10 (haha) hells do you actually beat this guy?! The only way I touched him was with greater ruin and I still only did 30+ damage!
I'm scared...

Mages are pretty weak against him. Lower his spell res with greater spell breach and hurl acid breath whilst surrounded by acid sheathe. Make your henchman tank take the punches (damn you Valen you traitorous scum). Also, try finger of death as much as possible, it won;t do much damage but his fort isn't as great as it should be. My cleric killed him with instant death destruction spells

well, a lame, but surefire method of killing him would be....
give your henchmen a +10 weapon, and keep resurrecting him till the ebil devil is dead; i had to use this tactic for my rogues fight with him since my weapons were only +5 at the time and had max enchantment amount and i didnt have the cash to make more +10 weapons. im hoping that when i get to him this time around with my shifter that i wont be forced to do anything so lame, but the way its looking i bet i will since most shifter forms so far seem very weak. |

I think they did a bad job of making it fair for every class as it isn't. A caster with a caster like henchman (Deekin, Linu) would be annihilated too easily. My clerics arrows barely did damage to the guy and like I said I kinda fluked the battle on the second try as he failed a fort save and died.

HAAAAaaaaa!!!!!!
Top level Sorcerors and Wizards are EASILY the strongest in this game! (Balpheron should have proven that - and what a wonderful robe he had on for a lich, not to mention the cloak...) anyway, His fiendish badness has HUGE damage reduction. I gave a certain Paladin two katanas to wield that have 2d12 sonic in one and 2d12 electric in the other combined with a +12 Str. modifier belt and she still couldn't touch him. And I know it wasn't the ability to hit either, my character had close to +60 for the first attack with true strike - and with my 2d12 sonic and 13 in Str. damage I rarely damaged him at all with these attacks. So what did work. Timestop.. (not neccesary, but nice) Premonition (for protection when you're hit) Mestil's Acid Sheath (this is the key ingrediant..NO SAVE & NO SPELL RESISTANCE, consider that each level of the caster adds +2 to damage - so a level 18 Sorceror is serving up minimum of 37 points of damage each time they are hit.) and the occasional acid fog or some such to catch his attention so that he will hit you. |

I have to disagree that the game wasn't balanced. Just because people use the wrong tactics doesn't mean the game balance is off. I finished the game and had no problem with the big bad M at all. All you have to do is use your brains when talking to the Keeper of names True Names are wonderful tings Edit: I admit, I didn't get it the first time through had to do a reload to get the right sequence. ya know, I never was given the opportunity to use his name (even though I purchased it). The Final cut sceene b4 the uber smackdown at waterdeep just kept repeating forever so I had to hit the escape key to get to the next sequence. When that happened I was immeadiatly engaged in battle with him... (and it didn't come up as a dialog option after I trounced him).

hrm, so how do you trick the keeper into giving you his name? i suppose it must require a tremendous int to do this as it doesnt appear to be a conversation option in the few times ive played through.
