I think that's her name, anyway. I'm referring to the 'boss' in Beggar's Nest (Yes, that does mean I got past the spider
![]() Well, she's proving a bit of a toughie for my dwarven fighter (level 5, IIRC). I'd like to play the game the entire way through without having to pick up any companions, but it looks like I might need to this time. Does anyone know what weaknesses she has or a good way to defeat her? TIA |

Yeah, I didn't actually find the altar until after I'd killed all of the undead manually anyway
Jaradu - in this instance just do what fighters are designed to do: close in and hack-n'-slash like crazy and hope she doesn't nail you with spells too much...

Ah, that's the problem - I already have destroyed the altar. She is still too hard.
Her most annoying spell is where she summons this column of fire from the sky which crashes down onto you, dealing loads of damage. It can get rid of half my health sometimes, even with a Dwarves constitution. You can't even run away from the spell. Before you ask, I have drunk potions of bless and potions of barkskin. I've tried many different approaches - using a longbow first until she comes up close (this hardly does any damage anyway), using a club+1 and using my good ol' Axe which I've specialised in... as every dwarf should. But... if I get a companion, my character is forever blemished and he will not truly be solo. Would an extra level make a difference? I can train up in the docks or something. |

If in doubt: run like a coward
![]() If you are really taking too much damage use the teleport stone and rest up/resupply at the temple of tyr. Gulnan won't recover any hit points. So you can basically just wear her down gradually by using this tactic. It's cheesy, but if you're desperate, you've gotta do what you've gotta do...

always use the plus one weapon against her, the way I beat her was healing potions and hacking away. get a plus 1 axe from the shop in docks. spell disruption is the only way to go. get an invisibility potion also, so you can start hacking up close before she sees you.
Also, since you are a dwarf fighter, a level up would probably help a lot; I believe at level 6 fighters get their first extra attack per round. I always have more trouble getting past her with spell casters than fighters. |

Okay, I'll go the docks and buy a Battle Axe +1. Also, I'll try and gain a level somehow. Hopefully that will turn the tables.

when i enounter problems like that, i run off to another area and work the outside of it and get a quick level or two.
when i soloed, i found that i had to pretty much run around all 4 areas and do the outside areas first, then inside the homes, then key buildings etc within each quad. it was more time-consuming, but it worked. and anytime i could afford a better weapon, i'd snag it fast. even if it meant it wasn't my favored one. +1 or +2 can make a world of difference. good luck. you can do it solo! V***V PS: consider getting some aid pots, and if you can find ANYTHING with elemental resist, get it and wear it or drink it or wield it. i always save her for last. she's the hardest of all the boogers we're sent to get. btw, when does your fighter get his second attack? i can't remember, is it level 6? if so, then you might want to go back to her when you get that.
