I'm trying to find the second Whaterdhavian creature for Aribeth. I'm trying to explore all the houses to make sure I don't miss anything. In the warehouse, I've gone downstairs and encountered a Bloated Dire Spider or something like that. Anyway, he's proving too difficult for my level 5 Dwarven Fighter. His poison attacks are really annoying - as soon as I use expensive antidote potions, he just poisons me again . Hmmm... maybe I shouldn't solo it? Especially since it's my first time playing the game . I can't help it! I love the XP!! Must...keep....soloing.... So, got any tactics I could use? Or perhaps I should go to the docks or something to kill a few ruffians and maybe get a level up?

Thanks in advance.

I think I just stone of recall'd back to heal as soon as I was nearly dead. I did solo it with a rogue with IIRC lower level than your fighter so it's obvious why no other tactics worked for me LOL

One level isn't going to make a huge difference in that fight. Consider engaging the spider with ranged weapons and then falling back as it approaches, and re-engage. I know those antidote potions are expensive but USE them, and any others you might have including bless, aid, barkskin. IIRC, fighters can use SOME wands - including summoning wands - if you have one use it. Consider bringing in a henchman for that one fight only.

Question - how do I get into the graveyard by Beggar's Nest? The door is blocked by broken wagons and boxes, and the doors surrounding it are all locked.

You either go through the warehouse or the secret cult headquarters in the northwest corner of the Beggar's Nest map. Both paths lead to a catacomb leading to the graveyard.

Awww, crap... so I do have to kill the spider. Thanks, Stratos.

And philip, I think I'm going to have to use those tactics. Cheeky, but effective

Wands, eh? I like the sounds of that... thanks Micah.

Use the stone of recall if things get a little too tough. Make sure you have a bunch of healingpotions, as well as some potions of aid. A potion of bull's strength wouldn't hurt either.

Yup, those Bloated Spiders are really tough and too few XP for my taste... What a challenge...

That spider's a killer. He probably killed my level 5 cleric at least half a dozen times till I broke down and got that one half orc henchmen (he died though, but bought me enough time).

Try to get as many nifty potions as possible, also items that gives you immunity to poison are really good to have. Problem is that they are expansive. Get a big fighter to fight the spider and shoot arrows at it.

If you are a thief, line the corridoors with as many traps you can find. Don't bother with tangle or sonic traps though. In worst case, try to lure it into many traps and then drink an invisibility potion and walk around it.

Potion of barkskin, aid, bless, cats grace (unless you are heavy armored, bullstrength, ethereal visage, blur etc scrolls so you don't get hit are good if you are going into melee with it.
