Is that how you spell it? Yes no? Forget it.
So I got the Soultaker dagger, and am heading off back to Ugloths Beard. The usual guys show up, ho hum, we're going to take your dagger, you cannot stop us because we've got faith, arrrrgh.... So after I talked to the dwarf fellow, I head to Aec'Lectec's lair. Big demon summoning going on. Not too hard to beat this guy, right? Just a couple of protection from paralyzation spells along with some Draw Upon Holy Might. Errrrk! This guy is annoying. And I use the term loosely! If he bites you you turn into a salvering beastie. And he moves damn fast. And he's got his little fanatical goons with him!! Any tips on how to beat this guy?

I actually fought/killed him a couple of nights ago (though he did manage to gib one of my fighters...).
I send forward an assassin in shadows and killed the lower 5 cultists (out of sight of the one who initiates dialogue) then headed back upstairs. I collected my party then headed back downstairs, my cleric summoned undead and my mage used a wand of summoning to call forth some ogres (I got sick of them being silenced after a few seconds, so any spellcasting should be done right away). My two main tanks fought Aet hand to hand (very low AC), my assassin popped out of shadows periodically to backstab him and my cleric and mage helped the summons slay the cultists. When Aet was on near death, my Assassin managed to backstab him to death. Nicely done that man. Though I didnt notice poor Montaron had been gibbed by the fiend before I'd hit quicksave. No great loss, thats what roleplaying is all about

You should also use all that potions you saved by now. Have your tanks drink Oils of Speed Potions of Invulerability, Potions of (any Giant) strenghth,...
This will turn the tide a lot.

Has anyone tried to defeat Aec'Lectec with a rather depleted group? I am just through Baldur's Gate City with a group of two dual classed characters (Fighter lvl 8 / Druid level 7, Mage level 9 / Thief lvl 6) and I am not looking forward to taking on Aec'Lectec - it took me 2-3 hours with a group of six!
Reckon my PC should be able to make a good impression against the demonknight 1 on 1 though! Another Q - hoping to BG2 soonish and I know you can import BG1 characters, buuurt, will I be limited to a fighter as I have already gone through the dual-classing process (started as a Druid until level 7 and have only recently got my Druid abilities back). |

When I first fought the demon knight I only used Minsc and Kivan because all the others were biting it frequently, so I only traveled down with my two main tanks and tadaa that did it.

While we're on the subject, however, why do you feel you have to tackle Aec'Letec at all? It's not like you need the EXP, what with having only 2 people. Quote:

Thanks for the reply Six
Of course you are right about the need for experience - I am maxed out already, so it was just for the challenge, but to be honest, I got to the second level on Durlags and remember how annoying it is, especially when your thief doesn't detect traps all the time so I am probably just going to pick up the final tomes again and wait for BG2 to arrive on my doorstep tomorrow! The only way I can imagine that would most probably work against Aec'Lectec *would* be to resort to cheese and just summon like mad to create that barrier, but that would be a bit pointless as I was trying to do the whole thing without naff tactics like running bait and monster party. The other point is that Aec'Lectec (I think) can drain HPs, so by sticking monsters around you give him opportunity to claw power back without a close offensive threat. Ho hum. I know half of you have solo-ed the game so you'll know it already, but its so much more fun with a limited party as you really have to think about how you get round things, until you can get to some decent items and levels. One other thing, has anyone had that bug where the game can't stop spawning certain things? On my first time round I was in BG the second time and trying to get to the flaming fist HQ - I sneaked around that area and my computer was going slower and slower, until it was at a complete snails-pace when I was in the area immediately around the FF barracks and I spied what must of been 100-200 flaming fist soldiers!! I actually figured that this was something that you had to work out, but I started getting suspicious when I couldn't get my thief in the bloody place because the soldiers had filled up about a fifth of the area. So, rather than actually solving the bug I figured 'bugga it' - got a few wands of sleep and managed to send several dozen to sleep - no rep loss! Unfortunately, unconscious FF *still* block your path. Tried hacking my way through, but my rather moralistic party got all funny about slaughtering tens of soldiers and ran off. ![]() |

Sucks to be a homicidal maniac with Minsc (And Boo) in your party.
"Change your ways, or Boo shall wreak hamster justice uopn your hard to reach places!" Go figure. Oh, and I got a bug like that in BG2- The ogre that makes Mazzy PO'd didn't speak, and all these bystanders kept spawning. Maybe it's something to do with cache size, and BG can't get enough memory to stop the process...
