On your return to Candlekeep, you can march through the library and eventually you'll stumble upon Rieltar and his companions who are in a 'meeting'. Well; I was kind of roleplaying so when I stumbled upon them, I told them who I was and they attacked ME (important!!). So I was vanquishing them, and who decided to step in and join the fight? A stupid Priest of Oghma from Candlekeep. Of course, before I could save him (Charm Person) he was killed by one of my skeletons, so I lost 10 Rep. Points and gained (woohoo!) 175 XP.
No big deal, you think, just reload. So I tried that and again the dude started attacking me, when I wasn't even the aggressor! Again he got killed, so again I lost reputation points. The third time, I thought I was being smart, by making Dynaheir use a scroll of Charm Animal (it worked! ) on him. He got charmed, and I sent him to the other side of Candlekeep. Then I started reorganising my equipment after that, I went back to the game, and quicksaved..

*BIG MISTAKE!*

The stupid priest decided to fight me after his charm had ended, so my auto-pilot characters killed him, and so I lost 10 Rep. Points!! AAAARGH! From now on, my paladin will vanquish the evil out of the Priests of Oghma... "Wisdom is only posessed by to leeaaarn!" Yeah right! Eat my shorts!

Charm animal???

Why not just reload and charm him once more -or just run away if you were out of charm spells?

I had something simularily going on in the City of BG: Every now and then a normal commoner were attacking me (I were also attacked by the Flaming Fists, but that is how the game should work in my situation). To be able to run off without loosing rep, I simply unequipped the weapons from my two tanks and used their bare hands to knock the opponents unconsious .

I use wands of paralysation in this sort of situation. Decent duration, fairly effecting, flaming fist make there saves someitmes but generaly it keeps them out of the way for long enough.

"Wisdom is only possessed by the learnéd..." Yeah, makes me want to administer some wedgies too.

You can also turn off your AI (lantern) button in Candlekeep, so your party won't act unless you instruct them to do so. Fear also works well on the pesky priests, as does Entangle.
