Game freeze up !

I have just left the academy and gotten into the main city. Almost every time I try to open a container or my inventory menu my game freezes!! I didnt have this problem in the academy. I have tried turning down some of the video performances like raidiant lighting and shadows as well as the grass and creature wind.I am running a P4@1.4G,ATI Radeon vid card(the "recomended" card in the games sys req.), I have 618 megs of RamBuss ram and I am running Win98se. I have already tried the update feature and it updated my NWN from version 1.107 something to 1.9 something. unfortunately it didnt help the problem. I have run Direct X diagnostic and that works fine. I have also run the "Mad onion 3D benchmark utility" and got a score of 1920. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

well imho its the pentium processor your using(long live the amd chip). i dont know what your problem on the game is cause i havent gotten it ever before. maybe turn down the alternate graphics.when you did the prelude and opened containers did it freeze? if not it could mean there is to much going on in the outside world that it locks on you.

mad onion. damn what card you running to get 1900 gots me gf4ti4600 and i got a score of 9837. higher if i wanna overclock my graphics card.

I get this same thing all the time only for me it is after every save and only in multiplayer. Are you playing single or multi, because the bugs seem to be so bad on this game in multiplayer it is unplayable at least from my experience. I once came upon a bug where I teleported to town and all of the NPCs that you can't injure began attacking me for no reason. NWN is really a great game but I wish they would fix all of the major problems, at least with multiplayer. I haven't run into any in single player but I'm sure there are. Anyone know when the next patch is due out?

Win 9x just supports a maximum of 512 MB RAM - inserting more is at your own risk as MS says. With more than 512 MB of RAM your system can behave unpredictable. If you don´t believe me have a look at

thanx for the tip , Banzai. When I get home from work I wil try pulling out my 2 64 meg sticks and see if that fixes the problem.

Ah, there´s another thing coming to my mind.
A total freeze of your machine (needing a hard reset to reboot) could be a symptom of CPU (main or graphic) overheating. I had this problem with my graphic card when playing NWN or Morrowind - simply removing one of the side panels to let additional air in when playing solved it in my case.

O.K. I pulled my 2 64 megers bringing me down to 512 megs or Rambuss ramm and i have pulled off the side of my case and hooked up a small clip on fan like the kind people in small offices use on their desks. Hopefully this will hepl with any heat problems, and the memory pul should help if that was the problem. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Thanx for all the help so far!!

game runs great EXCEPT every time I teleport to the temple within 15 seconds I get a hard lock!! I am curently in the graveyard and that area and the crypts beneath it run fine. Played for almost 3 hours. As soon as I teleported to the temple My game locked up. Theres my progres so far. any new ideas?

um i woud say it was your system or something cause i havent heard of any problems like that. i mean you changed some things with your puter and it started to work then it would lock up on you.
