*sigh* I've reached the final battle. And THIS time, I'm going to finish the game. I've got here twice before but never actually did it (didn't even try lol
![]() Here is my party: Cleric (me), level 9 (10?), sling Kagain, level 9, he has axe+2 and a shield and crossbow Montaron, similar level, double-handed sword+3, bow (he tanks, not thieves) Eldoth, level 10, bow Skie, level 9, bow Xzar, level 9, sling We have assorted wands, a scroll of cloudkill plus Xzar has 2 memorised, most spells, acid/fire/etc arrows and so on. Obviously we've removed the traps from the room as well. We've tried my standard tactic of haste/remove fear/fire protection etc on tanks; keeping range people out of the way and Eldoth casting fireballs and Xzar putting in cloudkills. They don't seem to do much and Sarevok has already moved out of the way anyway. He's cut down my tanks pretty quickly both times we've tried. All suggestions appreciated

Try summonig hordes of skeletons and other monsters to tie Sarevok down while you use your magics and enchanted arrows. If it's just Sarevok you need to fight, you won't need areaof effect spells.
Or you could risk great liver damage by quaffing every single potion you carry before attempting to beat Sarevok in close combat (I imagine Kagain is nearly immune to liver damage so he would be a good choice). Or try a combination, with Kagain and Montaron fighting, you summoning skeletons and healing, and the others firing their magics and missiles. Perhaps your thieves could try backstabbing the man instead for extra points of damage. The trick is keeping your party alive. If Sarevok goes after or seriously hurts one of your partymembers, get that one out of the fight and into the ER until (s)he's fully recovered. Don't worry too much about delivering a crippling blow, doing small amounts of damage will wear Sarevok down just as well. |

Yeah, I agree with what has been said so far.
a. Use all your buff potions. b. Have everyone take a potion of speed. This is where these potions come in real handy. c. If someone has a wand or spell of Monster Summoning by all means keep casting that as it will tie up Savarok, cast Summon Skeleton. d. Pause, pause, pause. Drink those health potions. e. As a cleric cast every spell you have that helps the party, i.e., bless, aid, etc., before battle. By the way, Aelia, you are the first person I have read whose main character was a Cleric. How did you like playing this character class? What did you most enjoy about it? I loved Kagain's sayings, too bad (from my perspective) he was evil. |

Thanks for your insights on your experience with clerics. I think the problem with clerics and BG has more to do with the parameters of the game than with the class itself. If you look at clerics they can wear the very same armor as fighters, have the second best hit dice in the game, and have the second best "to hit" percentages as well. In many ways D&D originally designed clerics to be second line tanks as well as spell casters of the healing/protecting type. Unfortuantly many just see them as well protected healers. The problem is BG1 is heavily leaned towards fighters, i.e., tons of fighting and best weapons by far in both ability and quantity. I thought IWD utilized the cleric much, much better and from what I hear clerics in NWN do quite well.

Bear in mind that Sarevok is 90% resistant to elemental and missile damage. Missile weapon attackers would do better in melee or as healers or other support if they can, mages would do well to avoid elemental damage spells (flame arrow, fireball, lighting bolt and so on) in favour of pure magical damage (Magic Missile) spells or summoning spells. You can never have enough summons. Not even if you really work at it.

Actually, in response to the comments about playing clerics: I always play one, have gone through BG1, 2 and TOB and IWD 1 & 2 with a cleric.
Clerics may not be equal to fighters when it comes to frontline battles (DUH) but that's not really the point - if you want a tank, pick a fighter. If you want a great offensive class with a little something extra, use a cleric. In BG1, it was hard at times, but with the DSOTSC spells (and Holy Water bullets!) added, my cleric was pretty great. Entangle, Command and Animate Dead were the most useful spells, and later on Flamestrike. Being able to use the Wand of the Heavens also helped a lot! In BG2, you can be a truly awesome foe as a cleric - I had a big percentage of the party kills there. You can use the heaviest armour types, shields and helmets. Often, my fighter type uses two-handed weapons like big swords and halberds, so I wouldn't "waste" him by making him use shields or blunt one-handed weapons, no matter how good they are. So the cleric is a good character to give those shields and weapons to. De gustibus non disputandem est. ![]()

I second Melusine`s post! Cleric are/can be awsome foe`s. Priest Of Talos(the onw who is Evil) is a good example. Just ask Butterfingers! And they have some really cool HLA`s in ToB.
