Can you import your BG2 characters into Neverwinter Nights and if so how are the designers going to stop things like thousands of rings of Gaxx appearing all over the place??

You can import your BG2 character, but he/she wont be allowed to keep those items etc. if you want to keep him/her in the official player vault.
------------------ "The time came to reveal his link to Ilmater; Hawk stood up, removing the sword from his chest. The other party members stood in disbelief as a full revitalised Hawk smote his opponents with Tyr's might." |

As far as I understand, you can recreate your Baldur's gate character in that, you can give him the same portraits, voice, appearance, name, etc, BUT, he will have to start from lvl1 like everybody else. However you could if you wanted create a simple modue which gices you say the exact experience you had in the end of the Bg saga by picking up an object. That will take your character to your pervious Baldurian heights. You can also recreate items, very similar to those found in BG, and add them to your own modules, (or edit those of others for that matter), infact you can create any item you want even vastly more powerful ones than those in BG.
HOWEVER, such characters will not be allowed in the official vault, which will regulate so that you do not become too powerfull too quickly. You can store them localy if you want, but most likely most servers will only allow vault approved characters for fair play. Ofsourse if a particular group wants to gave a titanic battle of Super Gods, there is nothing to stop them from running their own private server and having their fun. |
