I'm replaying Baldur's Gate for the first time is several months. This time around, I decided to let Kivan join the party. I quit playing for a couple of months and when I re-started..I was still in High Hedge shortly after acquiring Kivan. I had also visited the dwarf fighter with the supply shop in Beregost and accepted his quest. He showed up and started bugging me about "finding the caravan". So I decided to get that over with. I kicked Kivan out (already had 6 members) and went in search of the caravan.
I thought Kivan would still be waiting for me in High Hedge when I returned, but he muttered something about having "business to attend to" and now I can't find him. I'm assuming he is headed for the Bandit Camp. Will I find him there, or can I catch up to him before then. I really want to include him in the party this time.

I think when you kick him out he leaves the game, and you can not get him back

How was your Reputation when you dismissed Kivan? When you boot any character from the party, they make a Rep. check, and if they're not happy with the way you've been running things, you'll never see them--or their equipment--ever again.

I've had the same thing happen to me. I kicked Kivan out of my party only temporarily at the Friendly Arm Inn so I could round up some of the Cloakwood NPC's (I was collecting all the game's NPC's for a huge party at the FAI...lol). He tells you something about going about his mission on his own, and then he's gone for good. I'm not sure he'll stay no matter what your rep or charisma are. I could be wrong, though...
Word of advice...NEVER kick him out if you ever want to keep him. I always pick him up right after Imoen joins, before ever going to the FAI. He's probably my favorite NPC, and the most efficient as well...

DRAT!!! That's what I get for playing BGII so much. I just assumed he would either stick around or go to a local inn and wait for me to come get him again.
Dang...now I either have to reload an earlier game or just do without {sigh}

Well, I'm not saying it'll work, but you COULD try to CLUA him in. I'm just not sure what his creature code is (probably KIVAN)

CLUAing in party members is not advised--the game tends to crash whenever you move to another map area or perform any other type of Save.

CLUAConsole also won't bring back the nifty items he had (like a +1 halberd). Ah well......I'm playing an elven ranger as the main PC AND I've got Minsc as back-up. I don't really need Kivan and I'm still debating whether or not I want Ajantis.
I don't really miss the items Kivan had, because he was the only one who could use them, but I was looking forward to building him up and bring him along as one of my tanks.

In BG2 you can kick whoever you want from the party and be sure that you'll be able to pick him up later, but in BG1 most of the NPC's will just go their way when you kick 'em out. The only NPC I know in BG1 that will never leave the place you kick him out is Imoen. So if you want to round up NPC's and she's in your party don't risk someone leaving you. This, ofcourse, doesn't mean she's the only one who won't leave, but I just can't think of anyone else right now.
