I'm starting to acqire books, only 2 of which I've been able to identify so far - a Book of Venom Bite and a Book of Misfortune. Is there some way to read or use them? I didn't see anything in the manual on this.

Hi Aimee!!

Open up your inventory and right click on the book which will open a window with more detailed information about the item/book. If your character can learn the spell, you should have an icon to invoke or read the book.

Hope that helps!

Your character can invoke the book if it's

(a) in a spell school your character can learn;
(b) for a level your character can learn;
(c) not a spell you already have

So a wizard can invoke sun or stone books, up to their level in each spell school. They can't invoke any other schools, and once they leave wizardry (so to speak), they can't invoke sun or stone books unless they're in a class (like Samurai or Warlock) that learns in that school.

Note that when you invoke the spell book, you don't get the same boost in mana points that you do when you choose a spell while raising levels. For that reason, I shy away from spell books (the one exception being cure poison, if that's available as a book).
