I just went into the serpents head, and killed the giant snake there, opened the two chests, now what? there is a door I cant open? no lever? no keyhole? and steel gate door I cant open? again, no lever? no keyhole? theses are the only two ways out as I see? the steel gate door, leads back to the beginning of the temple, the other, I dont really know. Help!

In the room with the two chests and the fountain, look for a skull lever just above the fountain. Flip it and then go back down the hallway. You should find that things have "opened up" for you considerably.
