In the Stout Mines, King F. has made me a suit of
Dragon Armor. If I then kill him, plus all the guards,
I get a key to his treasuries (one near the throne
room and one elsewhere with 4 areas with multiple
chests in each). I get more dragon armor and LOTS of
other stuff (too much to carry). Is there any penalty
later on for killing him? I don't like to, he has done
me no harm, but all the loot is tempting!

In general, is your reputation of any importance? Can
you just kill everyone and not worry?

The reputation aspect of this game is sorely lacking, in addition to the general Alignment (Good, Neutral, Evil, etc.) that we all remember so fondly from AD&D. The fact that all characters say they're Neutral leads me to believe that there was originally something of an Alignment trait designed for the game, which could be altered by your actions in the game; another thing which died on the vine, along with Faery Wings...

No, there's absolutely no penalty for killing any friendly character; in fact, they often have the most experience. (Oakenmir, a tree later on who's ten million experience, is worth ten times the highest-paying bad guy!). As far as Freyedies is concerned, you can Steal that key from him with a decent Pickpocket skill, so killing him and all his guards is merely a matter of taste (though they are rather easy experience fodder, IMO)...

Gauleiter-
Thanks for the quick response - this board is amazing!
I never upped my thief's pickpocket skill because I
originally thoughtI would play the "good guy". My rattling
thief (now a ninja) was mainly for opening treasure chests,
and for the gold-digger trait.
Now that I know that being good gets you nothing I will
probably revert to my more natural evilness.

I had my thief steal the key. I also gave him the dragon ore and stole it back a number of times and got multiple sets of dragon plate.
