example, i switched from warrior to barbarian...but i noticed that i only get hit pts and dont get any more points to put towards my abilities....does that mean that once i switch, my character cant increase his/her intelligence or agility etc. points?

Not until he reaches the same level at barbarian as he was when he was a warrior. Then once he moves past, he will be back to better HP increases, and be able to improve abilites again.

Given all the complaints that folks have with the leveling up I hope they will change the way it works in their next game. It's not that the current system doesn't work in the long run but there is no reason to cause such player frustration when there are alternatives.
