what are the differences between minutes, rounds and turns?

Under second edition rules, a round is one minute long, and ten rounds made a turn.

Under 3rd ed rules, there are only rounds, each 6 seconds long.

IWD2 is using the 2nd ed rules, because you still have casting times listed in segments (i.e., Casting time 4, Casting time 8, etc.).

This is mostly important for spellcasting, as the longer the casting time, the longer it is before a spell goes off.
