What's "infravision" actually do?

Am I missing something? As far as I can tell, it doesn't make any difference whether the people in your party have infravision or not. Could someone give me an example of a situation where it makes a difference?

it makes a difference if you're in a cavern, or some place equally dark-ish. It helps you target opponents at a distance. that's what I use it for, anyhow.

DMs can get real evil if you dont have infravision and your in a dark dungeon. Although with undead around they can get real evil anyway.

But IWD dosent implement it like that. IIRC you get a -1 or -2 to hit in the dark without it, but Ive never checked it out. NO big deal anyway.

The biggest effect it has is highlighting enemies at night. Turn on group infravision and make sure you have a non-human in your party, and thats all the infravision you need.
