Area Transition freeze up solution

Okay folks, for everyone who has been having trouble with the game locking up when making an transition from one area to another, try this:

In order to 'jump' from one map to another you can use the following cheat:

Open the 'icewind.ini' file in the game directory. Add the line 'Cheats=1' under the '[Game Options]' section. Save the file. (I suggest that you back up this file FIRST to another directory just in case. Better safe than sorry.)

Run the game. Press Ctrl + Tab to display the console window.

Then type CHEATERSDOPROSPER:MoveToArea("ARxxxx") where xxxx is the area code of that map. This is case sensitive so be careful!

(Note: I believe that the proper command with HOW or TOL installed is as listed above, BUT some sources quote the proper command as CLUAConsole - which I think only works with JUST IWD installed. Try BOTH if one doesn't work. I'm trying to verify this with BIS right now.)

Lonelywood is AR9100
Barbarian Camp is AR9200

This is only a temporary solution and you may find that the same problem occurs again later on. I strongly urge everyone with this problem to contact BIS tech support and have them help you out with a permanent fix to the problem. [img]smile.gif[/img]

DL'd the cheat codes and ended up DLing an editor to get the areas.
Ah, the temptations. Even though this is my 2nd time thru IWD it has been long enough to have some unremembered surprizes so cheating wasn't an option, anyway I'm only using MTA on the world map.
As a rule, I never cheat the 1st time thru (that doesn't mean I don't take advantage of NPC's who I can rob & sell'em thier stuff back etc.... or other game foibles within the game).
The cheats usually make it too easy which becomes a waste of my gaming$ but in this case I couldn't have played ToL or HoW.

Hmmmm. Maybe I can use the codes to play a 1 or 2 char party later.

LOL ...

In some cases its the only solution that people have to bypass the freeze ups, as apparently the causes of the lockups / crashes can NOT be traced to a SINGLE cause based on all of the posts over at the BlackIsle message boards.
