Ok, I finally beat IWD today. Go me! I had bought Heart of Winter yesterday, in anticipation of todays event, so I got to instal it this afternoon. Well, I spend a bit of time in Lonelywood, and the game is running just fine. So I finish up in town, and head on over to the barbarian camp. This is when things get odd, the games runs real slow, like my processor is being eaten up. I make my way over to the Burial Ground for my first fight, and its terrible. The game runs like my old Pentium 75 w40 M RAM ran when I first installed Baldur's Gate on it!!! The game ran just fine during IWD, but now this... Is HoW THIS much resource hogging? Or do I have something set wrong? Has anyone else expierienced this 180 degree turn around of play between IWD and HoW?

Thanks in advance,

noj - I got no mages in me party!!!

In order to run smoother, it is suggested to turn some things off in the configuration, like hearing footsteps, weather, transparent shadows, etc. Give that a try and see if it helps. It did for me, and others who have posted here in the past.

Ok, i tried all that, and it still runs very slow. Makes battle a tad dificult. Especially when there are quite a few enemies casting spells. Is there anything else that can be done?

Thanks,

Jon

Do you have enough RAM? Mine ran a bit slow (at 64RAM) but was playable. But then I added another 128 RAM and it was a LOT faster

I've got 96M. As I said, IWD ran just fine, it wasn't until I installed Heart of Winter that I had this problem.

I got the same problem. 550Mhz, 290mb ram, 8meg video. HoW just slows it down. I go into configuration and turn of weather (huge hit) and change resolution back down to 640x480 and crank the gfx back down to 16 bit. Barely notice the difference in colors or screen size; and it helps. (but there is some intrinsic slowing on those levels. i believe it's "a known issue" at Interplay.)

I have a PIII 1Ghz, 384Mb RAM, Geforce 3, Ultra ATA100 Drives, etc. etc. and it still seems to run sluggish. When I say sluggish, Im just saying in comparison to BG2, because that is the only game I can really compare it too. Something about it just seems sluggish to me.

Yep. The game runs really nice until you install HoW. But it's not like you can't play it. It doesn't really bother me much.

Oh Leafy, what does the weather do in the game? I was thinking of turning it off, but can't remember what it does. Is it just the rain and snow like in BG/BG2 when you are on the surface?
