this is realy crazy, i've cleaned out Dragon's Eye and when i try to return to Kuldahar the game crashes "assertion failure error at ObjCreature.cpp in line 11232".
i tried reinstalling and all the pathces available and it doesnt work.
i've sent 3 emails to the Black Isle Support and Interplay Support and they did not return to me.
i'm near breaking the computer. please help

I'll apreciate it if some one could send me his save game from within Kuldahar after returning from the Dragon Eye. my email is :
amit-bd@inter.net.il

Thanks.

I am not surprised that Black Isle Support is not helping you...they would do nothing for me, either...Unfortunately, I cannot send you a saved game from that location, as I only have the last saved location on the game(sent to me by a good-natured dude on this forum).
Good luck...

Hello Wizz. I think that I can help [the saved game file shows the party's outside Arundel's place, before you speak to him after returning from Dragon's Eye... perfect for you, I think], but you'll need to help me a bit. What file do you need? Just the "icewind.gam" file? The "icewind.sav" file?
Sorry, but I've never done this sort of thing!
Best regards --- js

PS: Please reply to this same topic rather than starting a new thread (so I can find your reply)

thanks for the help _miao (js),
actually the all directory is needed.
if you could zip the all directory and send it, it would be the best. 200k tops.

if this will work it will be some rescue.

thanks again, wizz

yeah, i get a similar error while still in the caves of Dragon's Eye... when my Druid tries to level up from 6th to 7th and I click the "accept" button my game crashes with a ObjCreature.cpp on line #15890. So far I avoid this by not leveling up, but obviously I can't do that forever.. for now he just keeps building experience. All my other charaters seem to be fine, though, so far. Short of dumping him and adding a new character is there any way around this? I too had no luck with contacting the Interplay, Bioware or Black Isle support teams. Guess they're just too busy or something! Also, are there any known Mods or skins for these games.. i.e. Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate character images, etc.) ?? Any suggestions, please write me...

Thanks,
Logan

Ace,

If you want help from tech support, avoid the Bioware and Interplay forums totally. Go to the Black Isle forums and try posting directly to "RACHEL", she is one of the mods in the IWD forums and is EXTREMELY helpful. (Right now may be a bad time as BIS is pushing big time to speed up the release of IWD2).

However, try some of these things in the meantime.

(1) Make sure that you haven't installed an inappropriate patch.
Go to windows explorer. Find the main directory where IWD is installed. Search for a file called IDMain.exe and right click on the name. In the pull down menu, select "properties" and then in the window that opens up, select Version.

Here's how it breaks down:

V1.4.2 = IWD + HOW + TOL

V1.4.1 = IWD + HOW + HOW Patch (v1.4.1)
V1.4.0 = IWD + HOW

V1.0.6 = IWD + Latest IWD patch (v1.0.6)

Make sure that you haven't installed an HOW patch over an IWD only installation or an IWD patch over TOL or HOW. That can causes some severe problems. Also make sure that you have now used the wrong language version of a patch as well.

(2) Try uninstalling and reinstalling, and use the patch guide above. I know, I know ... tech tells you to do that all the time, but surprisingly it helps out a lot of the time. Errors such as yours can often be caused by bad file copies off the cd.

(3) Try copying each cd onto your hard drive. Sounds strange BUT there are a batch of BAD CD's floating around and this is a great way to check to see if that is your problem. If the copy routine starts to hang up, this is a sure sign that your cd is bad. Make note of the file that the copy hangs on as it is possible to replace the corrupted file. If the CD IS bad, it IS possible to return it for a replacement.

(4) Try turning off 3D acceleration, and EAX sound.

(5) Make sure that you are playing the game with NOTHING else running in backgroun. Turn off instant messenger programs, Norton anti-virus - in short: EVERYTHING!

There are some other things to try but those are the first and obvious potential problem areas. Try those out and see what happens.

General request:

Folks - if you are going to request help, it can be really useful to the people trying to troubleshoot your problem if you provide some DETAILS! Listing the exact error message as ACe-Logan did is EXTREMELY useful, but including details about which expansions andpatches are installed, the type of installation, and your operating system can be really useful. If it's a graphics problems, listing the type of video card that you have is also pretty helpful.

Thanx a bunch, Micah.
That's gotta be some of the best and most indepth advice on a forum I've recieved, ever. Sounds sad, but it's true. Though I am glad I found this site and posted anyhow. I'll get right on it and see if any - or all - of that stuff helps. You sound very knowledgeable and confident, so I am betting it will.
And from now on I'll remember to start listing more system and software info in future posts, as per your suggestion.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanx again,

-Logan

Hey Micah,

Just got a post from Rachel, so we'll see what she suggests. Thanx.

Well I tried your suggestions but they didn't seem to work.
I tried reinstalling the game with and without running the patch, but to no avail. I made sure I had the latest version of both; although the Properties/Version didn't seem to list the numbers as you had described. COuld be a possible problem there, maybe?
I then checked my CD's by copying them to my HD, but they seem to be ok. Also, I tried turning everything off in my startup taskbar, and all the unnecessary game settings, but these didn't seem to have any effect on the problem.
I have setup a new savegame and replaced the character, but I'd still like to find out if its fixable (incase it happens again) and possibly go back and salvage the old one. So I'm hoping we can all find some resolve to this.

I'm usually on around 1pm-4pm and sometimes later around 10pm. So If I'm on I'll try contacting you.

Later,
-Logan

Ace,

let me know what Rachel suggests and if it works.

Just a wild thought, when you re-installed tell me exactly what order you reinstalled things in.
