Character Injuries ex Deafness

My Cleric was exposed to acidic vapors and got the message that the Cleric became deaf. How does this affect my character? Is this something that can be healed by spell or at a temple? What other type of injuries are there? I do recall reading about loss of limbs and how even with resurrection those limbs are not restored.

I am finally getting into these D&D based games. I didnt really get into BG1 because of the slow start and I did not know much about the D&D rules. After playing IWD with its faster pace, I can appreciate BG1 more. I really want to know my stuff before Neverwinter Nights comes out. I would appreciate any pointers to some good resources on the web on learning the ways of D&D 2nd and 3rd edition rules.

I am not sure what deafness does, but it goes away pretty soon, so unless it prevents you from casting spells just ignore it.

Good way to learn 3rd edition AD&D rules - buy the Player's Handbook. SOld in many places. I saw it in Electronic Boutique for example.

This will negatively affect your ability to cast spells. I believe it's an 80% chance of spell failure. It'd be nice if they added little notes like that on the character screen, no? But it wears off, so no need to worry.
