Hi, all.

After a short break, I've nearly finished BG1 with my soon-to-be Kensai - Mage. Yay me.

Anyway, I remember that last month I got some good avice about saving certain areas until I was high enough a level to spawn the toughest monsters, for XP.

I also seem to remember that there was a mod that would cause the toughest monsters to spawn anyway, regardless of party level. However, I can't seem to locate one.

Is there such a mod? And if there is, linky please.

... I didn't even know there was a difference in the monsters. Do you mean the actually monsters change (instead of 4 Kobolds you get 4 Wyrns) or just the level of the monsters increases with the party's level?

I think it happens in some places that monsters change. Like the Planar Sphere...

absolutely - some areas have yuan-ti mages and/or umber hulks for example

the mod the OP is after is a component of the Tactics Mod

EDIT: and the link . . .

Yep, I've definately fought Umber Hulks instead of Yuan-Ti and perhaps (I think) a Minotaur. This usually happens when I'm rushing through the game. Personally, I would fight a flock of Yuan-Ti over two Umber Hulks any day, but that's the game for you.

Becausse the Yuan-Ti are more of an interesting challenge? The way that Umber Hulks fail to make the save against cloudkill 90% of the time and all just drop down dead is a bit boring I guess.

[/QUOTE]Nah.. I don't usually use Cloudkill. No, I think the problem is that Umber Hulks are more likely to screw with my party with their Confusion than not. By the time they're not a problem to me anymore, I don't see much of them.

As for the Yuan-Ti, I can't remember the last time they ever really challenged me. Maybe it's the fact that I usually evaporate them right after they cast True Sight and don't let them become a challenge, maybe not.

Aha!

I looked through the Tactics mod list last night; but I must have been too tired to see it.

And yes, many of the underground areas have different monsters depending on the party level. I remember one game where I left the Unseeing Eye quest til chapter six ... wow. Shield of Balduran was sort of necessary there.

I just finished of MR. ToB from BG1; and now to download and begin.

Armen; thanks for the link!

I find that Umber Hulks cease to be a problem once you know where they are.

Generally, selling and re-buying the wand of cloudkill from CI is the first thing I do when I have the money. My method of dealing with the 5 (4?) Umber Hulks in the room in the cellar is

1) thief hiding in shadows opens the door and then backs away very quickly
2) mage with wand lobs cloudkill into the room
3) all 5 (4?) Umber Hulks drop dead

I've never made the dog meat stew.

If thief becomes cofused everyone runs away and comes back later when thief is feeling better.

I guess if wouldn't be a problem if you weren't abusing the game engine to get a fully charged cloud kill wand.
