Hello. I was wondering, if it is really necesarry to start a new Bg2 game, and advance all the way to Tob. Or is starting a new character in ToB just as good?

It's just as good. You get a bunch of nifty items, but not all of the items you might want to carry over.
Flail of Ages? Yes. Celestial Fury? No. Black Spider Figurine? Yes. SoTM? No. But don't worry about that... There is no lack of good equipment in ToB. You should be just fine.

You've played through SoA earlier, yeah? Then I recommend that you import your character from SoA to ToB. You'll have the same character, with the same level and abilities.
If you haven't played through SoA earlier - do so. ![]() |

SotM: Staff of the Magi, in my opinion the most cheesy piece of equipment in th eentire game. Very nifty.
The Black Spider Figurine itself isn't very strong, but if you have Weimer's Item Upgrade mod, you can use it to get a very strong figurine. ![]() |

Having never gotten this far in my game, if I decide to keep the same characters in ToB, will they be transferred with the same proficiencies and spells as they had when they finish SoA, or will that be different (as Minsc's roficiencies change from BGI to BGII)?

If you Import an "unfinished" SoA game into ToB (which is one of your options after choosing ToB from the main menu), all your characters will be bumped up to the minimum ToB experience, at which point you can level up like normal. If you start a new ToB game & import the same main character, then choose NPC's while in the Pocket Plane (which you can do from your first visit to the Pocket Plane in ToB), they will bear little resemblance to the characters you took with you through SoA. Your best option is to finish SoA, then transition to ToB, in which case all characters will appear just like you had them (proficiencies, equipment, HP, etc.) at the end of SoA. - Imrahil |
