hey guys. i've been playing BG series for yrs now and i have never started a game from TOB (always gone all the way from BG2 chapter 1). i was wondering if anybody else here sorta thinks it a bit silly just starting at chapter 8 and missing out on the rest of the wonderful game - and earning thier high level character?

i have a couple of times started a character from level 1 at the beginning of BG tru to BG2 all the way to the end of the BG story line (i don't have TSC but it doesn't affect the story line). any1 else enjoyed doing the same? or feel the same way about starting from chap 8. i actually think they only had this option for those who deleted SOA before TOB came out so they wouldn't have to start the whole game over.

I, too, am about to start ToB. I got/am getting (its en route) ToB for Christmas, and i plan on running my monk through from my previus SoA game. So my question is, what is different? anything I should be wary of? Thanks!

not really man. the TOB section of the game is pretty easy. btw, you earned your character so thats by no means dishonourable

so easy that it doesn't even matter who you bring in your party with you. i didn't even touch heir'dalis for the whole of SOA, but picked him up and passed TOB for a bit of fun.
the only thing is a couple of hard bosses

I still have my very first BG1 character from years ago. When I got BG2, I imported him and took him all the way from a level 1 warrior to level 36 or something. Then I ditched him and started playing different roles instead of a fighter.

It MIGHT be considered silly doing that... if you haven't played the game seven or eight times. If you HAVE, and all you want to do is try the final battle or Watcher's Keep with a solo char or new strategy, then go for it.

I got TOB just recently and started a new BG2 SOA game specifically to go through TOB. (Never got BG1.) It's taking a while, though, so just to taste a bit of what's coming I started a couple of TOB games just to screw around a bit. New characters only start with 2.5M XP, though, so I didn't get to see much new, and it's not even great for testing character concepts since you can't create a dual-class PC from the creation screen in TOB. (If I'm missing something in that regard, that would let me create say a level 9/X Fighter/Cleric dualclass, please fill me in.)

I've gotten just far enough to...

get into the pocket plane, say Hi to Cespnar and Saervok, get to Saradash (sp?) and screw around there a bit. Since it only starts you at 2.5M XP, I haven't even got to use any HLA's yet. My SOA party is a bit over 2M XP now in Chapter 6, and still has yet to dive into Watcher's Keep.

There's a cheesy way to create dual class characters if you want to use it. Create your character normally, then as soon as the game starts, dual class to whatever you want / are able to. Then Export the character to a file. Now, start a new game and import the character. Your character will receive the 2.5 million XP in the second class, possibly (depending on the combination you chose) immediately unlocking the original class abilities (or at least putting you fairly close).

The same trick can be done in SoA, of course, with a lower level for the original class.
