Continues From This Thread

Jim, interesting tidbit about the amulets. The Cloak of Balduran can settle the MR issue with a healthy +25% MR.

Alson, not all elemental is stopped by MR, and I am trying to make this WS->T as tough as possible.

ADD] I'm just wondering how to defend against Sanchu. Unless the acid checks for MR?

The amulets also provide some concrete immunities, in case you're interested in those, too.

That's why I said "Most".

However... elemental damage that is not stopped by M.R. is a small, small minority. To tell the truth, I gave it a lot of thought when designing my solo no reloads F/M/T (currently in the Underdark, if anyone actually cares) setup - but, as it soon became clear to me, even a measly +1 saves bonus is better than a few more % of elemental resistance - as 100% M.R. covered my tooshie well and good. For crying out loud, even Flame Jet and Magma Ball are stopped by M.R.!

Without magic (=using items only)?

Yes, without using magic. Just equipment if possible. I would hate the idea of a WS->T being defeated just because of some cheesy katana... ...

Well, yes, I care ! You gave me the idea and I tried it. Before that I played solo R/C (remember Aragorn) and then I played solo Blade. And it was a breeze with a Blade as soon as he got Mislead spell, since 99% of enemies in SOA can't see invisible. F/M/T backstabs under Mislead so that is devastating.
I am currently out of Underdark, preparing for Bodhi. Have all the big guns - The Staff, The Warhammer, both Katanas, The Flail, ...

Maybe we can discuss this when we finish or DIE !

Strictly speaking, the DoE is not necessary, as you will have 100% physical resistance even without it, except with Slashing and Piercing. Use an Eclipse weapon, which will protect versus Missile. Now, IMO, Piercing damage is really only threatening when against Archers (which is nullified by the Eclipse weapon), and with Slashing, 95% resistance is good enough for the vast majority of the creatures in the game. Now... Will that Eclipse weapon protect against MAA?

Mislead is vastly unbalancing, yes. On the same logic, The Staff is well known for being the cheesiest weapon in the game, including Weimer mods.

Wow, you're fast! Oh, free time, how much I miss thou.

You went for Sanchuudoku in a solo no reloads game? That's quite suicidal of you! As much as it hurts me to say this - I think going for Fury and Sanchuudoku in such a game is a waste of time - as they're both strictly offensive weapons, and, as you must have noticed, defense tends to be more crucial if you're intending not to die.

I had experience for both fights (Fury and Sanchu) with my solo Blade.
And with F/M/T it was even easier - cast Mislead (and "some" other spells)before going up the stairs (you know where), detrap before they see you (it said illusion dispelled even though my Mislead partner was downstairs ?), but they saw me, I ran downstairs and Koshi and Maferan followed me. After that Misleaded backstabs and in two rounds it was over.

Kuroisan meeteing: he sees me, gulp (potion of invisibility), he doesn't see me.

Two scrolls of PFA, Mislead + Oil of Speed, goodbye mr. Kuroisan.

Why these katanas - because they HURT enemies and I must hurt them before they hurt me. And Sanchu's backlash can cause many spell failures.

Are you sure you went downstairs? The Improved Guarded Compound "blocks" the stairs until the entire crew is slaughtered.

Hmm. Very interesting. I wonder how you will deal with Improved-never-dead-Johnny Boy?
