The toughest one I ever played yet. Maybe cuz im just doing the whole thing wrong heh. I got as far as beating the air elementals but then after battling her minions and mellisan for about ten minuts I fell, Ill guess I should conctrate the firepower on her instad. What an improvement of the wimpy final battle in SoA. Johnny was like no challenge but here it looks like I got me a tough one indeed

Well I find it more than satisfying at the moment. Im fighting her for the third time(when she telports away and use the blade barrier) but I fall when I get her down to injured. Even planetars only last a few secs against her, and mordekainen swords will die faster then I can cast them. My spellcasters are being held by the demons and my fighters have an increnidbly hard time vs the mariliths and the shadow slayers that she summon in plenty. Oof, I get my ass more than kicked here...

well, the final battle took me by a surprise...

spoil ahead...

i was a bit surprise on how i defeated the final boss.. actually i didnt even mean to use cheezzy tactics at all.. i just placed the traps i knew she was going to be and in 3 sec i was playing the final movie of the game. got me by surprise since my party had a bounty hunter (and one not to waste the skills of the thief/trapper) i just utilized the special of the character not knowing i was doing something chezzy

Thats one way of doing it. The only thief in my party is Imoen and I guess you all know how pathetic her traps is. So in other words, Hack and slash, fry and flash...the old fashioned way is the way I have to go to take her out...
I would highly reccomend not to use cheese in this battle, though at some times it can be very tempting. She got lots of potential and power to put up one hell of a fight.

And yes Ascension and Tactics mod is next Oh and evil evil evil party this time

(minor spoilers)

It only took me two tries to give her the smackdown. I think I actually had more trouble with Draconis and Balthazar than I did with Mel, although the guardians of the third power source thing nearly finished me off a third.

I found keeping her demons distracted with summons and by using greater whirlwind (after dispelling her protections) she went down pretty easily if I didn't let up on the meleeing. I'd have whichever NPC that needed the most healing run out of range and drink a few potions, and a horrid wilting here and there helped alot too

Yes, the traps thing was nice but Jan only had 1 spike trap so it helped just a bit for one of the battles. The trap did 81pts of damage. Other than that I usually got my arse kicked. My first encounter she wiped out my whole party except for my main character who was able to resurrect one of my clerics with mass resurrection. I did so badly because I wasn't concentrating on her. After that I focused on her alone and faired much better, and with a little luck the game was soon over. Really liked the ending with the party bios.

Isn't describing the use of traps as "cheesy" a little unfair? Traps are an advantage of the thief class, just as higher HP, better thac0 and weapon mastery are advantages of a fighter.

By that logic spellcasting is cheesy.

The use of Traps is not cheesy, it's the ways in which they can be abused that make them so. Tactics like Trapping a powerful enemy's spawn point, laying a stack of Traps all on one spot, and using Traps to get around weapon immunities (cannot be hit except by +? weapons) are all very cheesy. Sadly, to make Traps fair (but still quite effective) would take some SERIOUS code work.
