I am in Watchers Keep. I am at the same level with Lum the Mad's machine. In a little corner of the level there are stairs that go down to a lair with a demilich. The dude just keeps trashing on my party with imprisionment. I've tried various protection spells, hitting him with a variety of offensive spells and yet most of my party gets imprisioned and taken out of the game. I've loaded this part about 10 times trying various things to no avail.

Any clues on how to defeat this undead would be appreciated.

Thanks

The only summons that will work here are ones with weapons that strike as +4 enchantment or above (i.e. devas/planetars/MS/select elementals etc). Fireballs will not work in this case since Demi-Liches are immune to magic (bar a very few select spells e.g. dragons breath).

Your best bet when coming against a demi-lich is simply to use a protection from undead scroll, and then waltz up to it and begin bashing several barrels of cack out of it. Other alternatives include using a Beserker (e.g. Korgan), equipped with a +4 or above weapon, whilst enraged, although you will only have 1 Turn to take it down before become fagtigued and then imprisioned. Use death ward spells on you allies to counter the demi-lich howl, and only send one or two protected blokes in, rather than your whole party, since the demi will randomly target you.

Finally, weapon wise, use once such as the Rune Hammer or Mace of Disruption. He will eventually fail his save

Minor correction.

Devas and Planetars strike with a +3 weapon. Well, I know for sure that the Planetar does, and about 75% sure about the Deva.

In any case... summons are very bad to use against a Demi-Lich.

Agreed . I seem to recall however, that a Deva wields a Mace if Disruption +2 (i.e. +5 enchantment to hit). I'll have to double check. It would seem a little odd for the suposedly more powerful planetar to wield a weaker weapon. I'll check when I get in tonight.

Perhaps because the Planetar wields a Vorpal weapon?

ADD] Planetars wield the Silver Sword +3, Devas wield the Mace of Disruption +2( or +5 if you prefer).

Do you happen to have Minsc in your party, or perhaps is your main character a Berserker?

Hmm, I could swear that I've seen Devas score vorpal hits too. Perhaps it's an innate ability, regardless of the wielded weapon?

Unfortunately, Minsc's "Beserk" ability does not protect from imprisonment, only "Enraging" does. Confusing, especially since enraging comes from beserkers!

Vorpal hits? I have never seen this before, but I have seen them "Destroy Undead".

To get back to the original question, the way I killed this demi-lich was to lead with aerie, then beat him up (GWW is awesome) before he got off his second imprisonment. Aerie went in first because I didnt need her for his fight. One quick casting of Freedom , and away we went.

More practical methods can be found by searching the SoA forum for kangaxx tactics. One demi-lich is much like another.
