Xzar v the Zombies (an Alternative Fairy Story)

Small Spoiler

Some of you may remember I was role-playing 'Snow White and the 5 Dwarfs' - well I reached BG city and the time came to ditch Xzar in favour of someone smaller ( yes I know that's not PC). So what to do with the mighty Xzar ? Since I was near the Zombie Farm I chose to let him try and clear them out single-handed. He quickly dispatched the first wave with his magic but after that he was left to take on the Zombies armed only with his dagger. But now the plot took a strange turn - the Zombies couldn't kill him. They just knocked him down and wandered off. So the point is this, is it true that you can't be killed by a Zombie ? If they only attack with their fists then I guess not. Anyone understand what's going on here ? So - "Who will rid me of this turbulent Mage" (sic)? I took him to the Low Lantern and introduced him to Entropy. The End

I know that if you attack some one with your fists(Unless you are amonk in BG2) you cannot kill them, you knock them down to 1 hp and then the become unconsious, so I assume the same happens for Zombies.

I would suppose so--the programmers could have avoided this by equipping the "Zombie" moster with a non-removable club, but I guess they just didn't think of this. A similar instance was when I Charmed the cat at the Nashkel Mines and had it attack the rats--it just couldn't kill them. Lousy ratter, if you ask me. (Or a pacifist....)

What sort of damage does a zombie do again? It just hits you with its fist? That's all?

That's right Lemernis
So - not all monsters have weapons, but of those that don't most have teeth or claws or special attacks (but not the cat it would seem). There are also things like Ogrillions and Golems that appear to have high strength, so that they can kill with their hands. Which just seems to leave the poor old Zombies as the least threatening monster in the whole of the Sword Coast. Well you learn something every day.

I always figured they might have some sort of necromantic level drainy thing going on, but never bithered to check. Thanks.

That made me think of a line from the classic '80s film, Return of the Living Dead:
"If you really love me, you'll let me eat your brains!"

Maybe these zombies don't have the same epicurean-like tastes.
